Looking to purchase Rx-7, need help :)
New to the forums so please, don't jump all over me if I ask something that has been said a million and one times.
While browsing through my wheels and deals, I came across one of the most awesome cars I have seen. An 88 Rx-7 Turbo 2. Here was the description:
"1988 Mazda Rx-7 Turbo 2 65k miles on original motor, 5 speed, 1 owner, sunrood, pw, pb, ac, tilt, new wheels and tires (appear to be 17 in. 5 spoke gunmetal rims and low pro's), intercooler, and runs great. Asking 5495."
Now from what I've heard, this is a steal with the many miles. I called the guy tonight and asked how good condition the car and engine were in. He was very nice and said both interior, exterior and engine were all in very good shape. I'm looking to sell my Cavy and purchase this car.
But I wanted to know some things about it. I know it's 2 door, rear wheel drive, and turbocharged but are there any places I could look up specs on it (hp/tq ratings, top speed, ect.) and how much hp can the car handle with a boost controller before stuff blows up? I know a decent bit about cars so I'm looking to purchase this car and upgrade the shizzle out of it.
Thanks for all input. Looking forward to posting more here.

i think they have about 182HP ..... they can handle as much boost as you can provide fuel for.... i know if you plan on boostin more than 7 that you need a Fuel cut defenser and some sort of fuel control AKA safc.. anyways theres alot more out there but i dont know jack about s4's s4= 86=88 rx7 S5= 89-91 s= series

specs - try these websites:
http://fc3s.org
www.teamfc3s.org
In general - the car can handle high boost if you build it correctly with an aftermarket ECU, blowoff & popoff valves, proper sized injectors, larger turbo, etc.. Just like with any engine, you'll blow something if you run lean under high boost, so building it right is essential.

The TII is a TORQUE MONSTER, with top notch handling.
It's 100% designed as a sports car, not a "sports coupe" or "sports sedan."
The Turbo II is a SUPERCAR and is the tuners DREAM CAR. Mazda designed the car's drivetrain with 400HP in mind but detuned to 200/180 ft-lbs torque. What that means is you can GO NUTS designing a porsche killer for little $$$.
The rotary engine is PERFECT for a sports car. Mazda designed the rx-7 to take 130% advantage of it. That means you get lightweight HIGH OUTPUT performance, UNLIMITED REVING (there's nothing to break), small engine means sweet aerodynamics = low drag. Handlign is the BEST part of the rotary experience. The chassis has rear steer like some porsches, so you can kick some serious butt around the corners. The car handles & drives so well - it inspires you to push the car beyond what you think it's capable of
Best of all, the rx-7s have an international following from tuners, manufacturers, and enthusiest. That means you have a wide selection of performance upgrades, accessories, bodykits, coffeytable books, toy models, and knowlegable people.
