Looking at new tops for the vert ... color opinions

I have an 88 Black on Grey RX7.

I'm contemplating doing a new top, however I don't know what color I want to go with. I personally think a camel/carmel top would look amazing on the car, but dont know what some of your opinions are on that. I think its going to be in the german cloth too. Has anyone done this color combo before?

Here's a pic of what I have now (i know its dark without the top up but its the only one i have at the moment

interesting idea, ive never seen another color other than gray. idk what color i would put on it, probably just black. but just remember, if thats the only thing that is camel/carmel on the car, it may look funny. 2 tone looks better with other parts the same color (like the seats and dash)

I have a white vert and I am thinking of doing a navy blue with the german cloth. Cool as crap has a good point about the two tone. My interior is navy blue so I have that theme already going. I guess you will just have to use this to get camel colored seats and leather boot from the group buy that is going on right now.

Interesting that this question has come up. I was just contemplating convertable tops the other day.

IN MY OPINION...I have never seen a convertable with a top color other than black look decent. All convertable tops should be black...JUST MY OPINION.

Black is classic, and you can never go wrong with black. But a carefully selected top color can really set your car apart.

I agree with cool as crap if you had or were going to have the seats done in the same color it would look great but stand alone might look odd.

And as coulby says black is classic.

I have a custom red/black weave that looks really hot on a red turbo vert. I have seen a black and grey combo like mine that also looked sharp. This is my third top so the plain old black just was not going to cut it.

yeah i have a saphire blue vert and when i get my interior redone i will be going with a cream color top. my seats will be cream with blue accents and the interior will have a few accents of cream. also my brake calipers will be the cream and my wheels will be color matched to the paint of the car with a chrome lip. bbs style rims like the vert already has only bigger. and im repainting the car midnight blue with a bit of purple pearl. i would like to photoshop this up someday.... hmmm.

they arent too bad... now i havent done it, but i have talked to people that have due to the fact that i was going to do it myself. there are parts of it that you will need extra hands on. there should be a write up on it. just do a search for vert top install, or vert top replacement.

hey hurleysurf24 i think that color scheme will look awesome. those are the same things i want to change to off white in my car. i wish someone had already done all this or could take some time and photoshop up some verts with different color options to see what it would look like. if you need a pic of the vert i have side pics and everything.... wait no they are all with the top down. i will have to take new pics. just let me know if you want them and can photoshop them up. thanks.

The Robbins top seems to be the way to go. I am assuming that the cloth top also replaces the vinyl on the targa top. Is the vinyl on the underside replaced? I am also assuming you need to get a new headliner. Also there are a lot of different clothes available. Has any one put a cloth top on the car? Which cloth do you like the best? I was thinking of the german style.

I also made a deal with a local upholstery shop that they will put it on and I can buy it elsewhere. They said that I could probably get it cheaper than they could off of the website, and there would obviously be no mark-ups on it and probably no sales tax. They said they would do if for about 400 clams.

I have an '88 that doesn't have rainguards on it. What does the rainguard look like, and can I fit it on my '88?

I've got to do mine sometime on the 'vert. Waiting till later in the year when I'll need the top up! I hadn't thought about anything other than going with just the stock color but now I'm kinda wondering what another color might look like against the Sunrise Red. Might look nice from the outside but I'm wondering if some choices would "clash" with the interior?

I was wondering if any one had contacts with Robbins tops or a supplier thereof to get a group buy started. My car still isn't running (RP Performance ripped me off and turned my motor into a boat anchor) so I am not in immediate need for a top. I will need to get one sometime this year though as the old 20 year old canvas top had its last sunny day.

Also, does any one have any pics of their beauty?
