Looking into an 86 FC GXL... suggestions?
i passed by the local 7-11 and saw there was a burgundy 86 GXL for sale.... im looking into buying it as i called the seller and are asking $1500 for her. it has one single ractive muffler, and a TII hood, and from what i saw looking through the tinted windows(not recent but still look pretty good no purple-ing), it has black interior with leather seats. tires look like they have about 50% tread left and has sunroof. i saw a little rust spot in the left rear fender on the wheel arch(simple fix) which doesnt look too bad. no leaks from what i briefly saw. oh and it has a white g-string hanging from the rear view mirror....LOL, gonna toss that out ASAP i think its the tackiest, saddest thing to see on a car.
i wondering besides the usual when buying a used car (compression, leaks, overall engine condition etc.) what should i look for when i give this FC a good inspection.
IM going to take it to my friend whos know rotaries more than me to help me get a good idea as to whats going on with the car aside form asking the seller of its history.
i've owned 2 FBs before this car so im very knowledgable in rotary.
also what are good compression numbers? in know the limit is 85 on FB's but seen a few who have as low as 50 that dont have any starting problems at all and are used as DD's.
im going to check the car and give a good once over tomorrow and a test drive to my friends house so he can give me the 411, with the seller of course
as i mentioned above i called and a female answered and told me shes asking $1500. from the license plate the car is from north/south carolina, i cant recall.. and they/her/him are military from the DOT sticker on the windshield, so possibly they are getting stationed somewhere as is very common occurrence here in killeen as Fort Hood has a rotation of 1st Cav and 4th ID going to iraq. and most G.I.'s are just getting rid of their cars when they deploy in which case once they get back will buy something much better(almost all of fort hood is rolling around in anything from brand new 350z's to one guy having his name on the list for a hardtop viper) maybe i can talk them down from $1500 to maybe as low as 1g, not really looking to but i might as well try.
summary: aside for general rotary inspection, and from what my friend can help me find, what else should i look for?
i'll try and get pics tomorrow

compression should be 120 when the motor is in TOP condition
if its at the 80-90 range u'll need a rebuild soon, but u might be able to get it to run another 1 yr or so
do the compression test if u could, then look at the FAQ here u are set
