Looking for interior parts.

I'v been reading threads on rx7club.com for quite some time now. Ebay has been very unreliable with parts. I get some very worn, different then the pictures, some cracks that i was not told about in specifics. I was wondering If anybody could help me find some good interior parts for my 2nd gen (87 n/a) I want to get my inside of the car looking clean before i move to the engine bay, and swap motors. Maybe by this time i was know a little more about swaps and whats the best for hp. Can anybody help me out? Any parts from 86-91 fit (i think) Thanks crew

What parts are you missing (or are yours just not up to snuff cosmetically)?
What color are you looking for?

There are some subtle differences between series (S4 and S5) that can make life difficult (and it's hard to see how extensive they are till you try to interchange them) but they can be overcome with some creativity and research.

Mazda still offers parts but of course, prices are sometimes astronomical although your options are limited if you want perfect parts.
Black interior parts are avidly sought after and finding good used parts can be tough...A-pillar trim seems inherently prone to cracking when removed and is difficult to find, for instance.
There were material changes between series as well and although the parts are interchangeable, the later series parts are more desirable (the radio surround is a good example of this this).

The classifieds are your best bet for interior parts but patience is needed...it may take a while for what you want to show up.

Are you talking about stock parts? If so, then the only reliable way to get good quality parts is from the Mazda dealer. BlackDragon also sells most of what you can buy at the dealers but they don't stock certain items in certain colours.

Sorry it took me all day fellas I hope you're still with me..

Clokker, If you want to explain the difference between the two by all means..This 1987 rx7 is an awsome experience.

To all, I'm looking for Black interior parts. As black as they can come in good condition, My car went through a friend who thought he was carfefull. Unfortunatly I need the whole Dash, (example: Whole radio surround, New shiftboot/surround, a nice centerpeice(armrest), The speedo cluster surround's in good shape, wouldnt mind paint for it though.)

Pretty muych means everything besides the doorpanels and back, I have 91' door panels now, they're very nice...speakers in the doors.

I am hardly an expert and most of my experience has been from the dash back.
At this point I suspect that most of the differences are not so much series specific as much as seatbelt specific (which may relate to the series as well...dunno).

Certainly the hard interior panels (a-pillar and the two b-pillar pieces) are completely different depending on seatbelt type.
So is the headliner and the cabin carpet.

My only knowledge about the dash relates to some of the switchgear/electrical...although the connectors are the same, the pinouts are different and some switches will not interchange.
This is true of the gauge cluster as well although I believe that some enterprising souls have figured out the differences and repinned the connectors to make the swap work.

Although Mazda is hardly unique in this area, their fondness for changing (seemingly) inconsequential items from year to year (or model to model) is frustratingly baffling.
I've been trying to cobble in cruise control for instance and not only are the parts different from S4 to S5 but also between Turbo and NA.
The dash switches appear identical (currently I have two) but carry different part numbers.
The CC computers are the same way, in fact when checking on the parts fiche I found the price difference to be amusing (in a cruelly absurd way)...the NA CPU is over $600 and the Turbo version is $300 more.

This predilection for changing minutae extends throughout the series and can really trip you up, so be careful.

Clokker, I think i am tagging along behind you on this. I understand the differences..for instance, My cluster it from my car( original ) tht makes it an 87. I had to buy a new cruise control switch. I bought it thinking any item from an 87-91 would fit.. it dosent. I screws in where it should but it dosent fit in the rectangular hole its fitted for. This sucks, it looks horrible on the inside but on the outside it's lightly noticed.

On other notes today i was driving my girl to a doc. appmnt. After a while of driving the car (it seems when im cruising or pushin peddel a little hard) i would start to notice a beeping noise through the loud music. its coming from behind the guage cluster. maybe its attached to it. None the less the beeps are 1 beep. by one beep.

Then it happends another time i start 5 beeps by 5 beeps.

I hate it, but i have a good amount of selective hearing.

By the way good morning everybody..

A couple of differences in dash parts that I know of...

1. The radio surround and center vents are different, they can be swapped but you have to change them both.

2. The Warning light cluster and surround are shaped differently, to put an S5 surround in you would have to swap out the clear cover on the cluster.

3. Shift boot and surround is different. IIRC.. the S5 boot is not as tall as the S4 and the way it mounts to the surround is slightly different.

clokker, The S4 and S5 cruise switches are NOT interchangeable nor are the cruise computers. If you have an S4 car you will need the apropriate S4 cruise parts to make the system work. If you have an S5 I can sell you a kit. I have a complete S5 cruise kit less the actuator NEW that I'll sell you for $100.00. It includes every part you need to install cruise into an S5 without cruise except for the actuator (Brand new switch, brand new computer, brackets, bolts, etc).

I've got an S4 shifter surround and I think I'll soon have an S5 stereo surround without vents (though as mentioned before you can't use the two together). PM me if you're interested in either. I also have a parts sale thread, but other than the stuff I already mentioned I don't have much for cosmetic parts.
