Looking for good street/autox brake pads.

Ii've been replacing all the worn brake components this week and everything has pretty much been taken care aside from pads. My rear pads are already taken care of (I used the higher quality OE pads) but I'm looking at going with something a bit different up front because I'm going to try my hand at auto crossing this year.

I'm looking to keep the cost reasonable and don't want to get a pad that's prone to squeeling until it has been roasted and don't want to get a set that needs to be swapped out between events because it'll eat my rotors.

Thanks!

A set of pads you might look at are the axxiss metal masters. You really don't need a badass track pad for auto-x since the temps don't get that high as compared to road racing.

That's just one pad there are many more others can recommend. I have also heard good things about the lighter EBC pads. I bet you will be fine with a street performance pad.

HPS for street / auto X.
HP+ for autoX / Open Track days.
HP Black for road racing.

That is currenlty what I use. HPS won't fade for auto X.. but I don't recommend HP+ for street use do the quick wear.. and lock up really easy on street tires.. especially in the rain.

Are you talking about the Hawk pads? I've heard those are pretty good and I know at least one guy locally that's been happy with them in his FC.

Another vote for Hawk HPs. Allthough they do dust quite a bit.

EBC green stuff. Hawks are sorta dusty semi-loud .

I'm a huge fan and been around it for the last few years. It's not too loud or dusty. And btw, I'm local if you need a hand Urizen .

I looked at the EBCs and I haven't found a local source and they seem to be a bit more expensive then the hawks, otherwise they look nice.

I'll let you know if I get in over my head here, so far so good though, everything is coming off and going back on nice and easy.... almost too easy.....

That's when it's scary . I honestly get freaked out if stuff is going too easy. But then again, it's nothing to whine about !!!!!!!!!!

Anyways, hit me up for any reason. I'm having major FC withdrawls .

I've got Hawk's on my FC and they squeel. They have ever since I got it and they have plenty of pad on them. I know several people that have had the same problem. I believe the pads on Jacobs FD did the same thing.

I got Axxis Ultimate installed today.. so far I like them. They seem to grip nice and are not any louder than OEM.

I've had the Hawk HPS on for about a year now and they are great for the steet and I ran about 12 Autocrosses last year without any fade at all. Make sure you have all the stock shims behind the front pads and you will not get any squealing at all. When I bought my car and I put the Hawks on I found out the shims were not there and I ordered them from Mazdamotorsport.

Hmm, those Hawks are sounding real tempting, especially since I can get them locally for a decent price.

For those of you having squeeling probs, did you use the shims and apply anti-squeel grease to them when installing? Did you also bed them correctly when you first installed them?

I don't drive this car a great deal on the street so a little squeeling isn't going to be too bad, but if I can avoid it all the better.

I have the HP+ and love them. Aside from the dust and it sort of sounds like a school bus stopping sometimes.
But that is only under light braking.

mine are with new factory shims and yes i used the grease on them i think it has to do with the dust getting trapped or maybe on mine its because 90% of its life is downtime and im in the south with the humidity and the rotors rust when sitting for 2 or more days but not heavy and one quick brake check fixes that
