Are you looking for a stock CD player? Don't bother, they're crap.

There are a number of aftermarket headunits that will closely match the stock orange. Browse around on crutchfield and find one you like.

I have a stock '91 Cd player in my '86. For starters it is a pain in the butt to get it to work with that blasted mute addon that it HAS to use. I had to get a schematic from Mazda for the '91 and one for my '86 to determine what went where, and then there was one wire that had to be connected between the CD player and the mute button that wasn't anywhere to be seen on the adapters! Which also was interesting, I had to get an adapter to go from the '91 stereo then another adapter to connect to the existing wiring. Then determine which wire had to be connected between the cd player and the mute button. The last thing on this point is that there is a different radio for EVERY single make of RX-7. The GXL has a different radio than the Convertable than the Turbo than the GTU. Each radio has it's own wiring as well, and different for each year.

Next, the cd player skips if you even fart. I've tried cleaning and everything. It also doesn't play all cds, including some originals. You can buy a brand new cd and it may not work. I have at lease 5 original cds that simply will not even start.

Other than that, it looks really cool have a factory radio in such an old car. Expecially the '91 cd player in my '86.

I have an 88 vert stock pioneer player plugged into my 87tII. Everything ust plugged right in. Only modification I had to make was to the power antenna which wouldnt respond. I just wired it to accessory so it stays up al the time.

The unit sounds great! i get complements all the time since it is so old and in good working order. Sure it skips pretty badly and maybe not as loud, but every time I look at it I just say woow... that thing is 15 years old, weighs 35 pounds, and cranks like a ****.

The skip/shut down in the Pioneer CD player is apparently a mojor problem. Had the same problem. Most likely it is the lazer assembly if clean does not fix. The sled assembly is still available from a Pioneer certified repair shop. I had it done last summer in a '91 AE and it helped but did not elininate the skipping with a bump syndrome. About $175.00 with labor.
