Welcome to internet forums. This one, like most, has a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section that you should read before posting questions on the forum. See page 6 of the FAQ for your question.

$7000 seems a bit high, but then you could spend $7000 on a really top quality paint job. Certainly the Blue Book on this car is much lower. If this car is equipped exactly the way you want, I wouldn't let the idea that "no NA is worth over $4000" deter you from buying it, but realize that your standard insurance policy isn't going to give you $7000 for it if it is ever stolen or totaled.

For that kind of premium price, you should also insist on full documentation of all the work done.

find out if its known on other RX7 forums...
Ask about the health of the engine (compression test, what was done when the engine was "redone" and who did it).
Ask about coolant problems.
That info you gave is nowhere near enough to go on before buying the car, sorry.
Make sure you drive it, and make sure you know what to 'feel for' when driving it

I went to go drive the car, it has 10 000km on a rebuilt engine from california. Inside is mint condition... passenger seat looks like no one ever sat on it.... no rust, clutch and tranny redone less then a 3 years ago, barely any scratches, tires look new...I think Im going to offer him $6000.000

Message from the seller.... after informing him what everyone thinks on his price lol

"Though alot of people on the RX7 forums said the car is not worth more then $5000 tops. Do you know what the bluebook value is by anychance?[/QUOTE]

i have no idea what the black book value is. and you can tell the people on the rx-7 forum that there on crack..... the mods on this car are worth much more then 5000$, thats just the price of the paint jobe...."

wow, if I could sell my rex for the amount I've spent on her, well, I'm too scared to work out what that would be... but I sure as hell know I wouldn't get that for it.

Everyone knows you don't get back what you put into these cars... Thats why so many people break their cars rather than sell them.

Mine isn't even highly modded (94' FD on twins, mostly cooing mods) and I've spent easily £10K+ under the bonnet (yeah, £'s)

Yep, with the exception of the really high-dollar classics (and even including many of them), you never ever get the money back out of a car that you've invested in modifications/restoration. Does a $5000 paint job add $5000 to the value of a $3000 car? Does a $2500 rebuilt motor add $2500 in value? No way. But they do add something.

That said, I reiterate my opinion from above, namely, if this car is equipped exactly the way you'd do it if you were going to do a custom paint job and body kit, then offering $6000 is not insane. That way you actually save a few dollars over doing all the work yourself, plus it is finished and ready to enjoy, not a three-year unfinished project.

One strategy is to tell the guy you'll give him $5000 cash because that's what it's worth to you and walk away, but leave him your phone number. After he's had the car on the market for a while and gets no other offers, he may call you back, or he may find a sucker for his $7000 price. Either way you don't pay more for the car than you feel it is worth. In the case of my current 7, I offered the seller about half of his totally outrageous asking price and a few months later he sold it to me for what I offered.
