looking at a 90 vert, coolant leak?

guy says it'll smoke on start up, but it goes away after warm. read a little about it and how to do a temp fix since the coolant is leaking into the combustion chambers. what causes this? a bad housing? iron? can i just pull the engine, replace the bad part and put it back in and be good? he's asking 1k for it, manual, beat up and said he's driven it for ~15k miles and the guy before him said the engine was rebuild ~60k before that. im an fb guy so what should i look for when checking this out?

The rag top it done, but he has a new one to go on, just needs to be taken off and the new material put on the oem soft top frame im assuming.

I'd ****** it up. 1k for a roller that comes with a new top ready to go on isn't bad, but I'd personally try and haggle him down to $500-$800.

You'll most likely need a rebuild though, as the front irons like to crack and allow coolant into the combustion chamber and exhaust gas into the coolant.

Pop the top off the coolant reservoir, and if it smells like gas/exhaust, rebuild.

cool thanks for the advice! good news and bad news... i have a 13b with a 5spd and stage 2 clutch out of a 88 vert im currently ripping apart to replace the third iron and then into the fb it goes,, or so i was planning :/
so another engine is nbd, bad news is, this would be the gf's toy car so i'd be out a good engine and stuck with the always-needing-something 12a in my fb for now. he said 1k bottom line, idk i'll point out some rust (im sure i'll find some) and some other little things like the beat interior and what not and say i know you were at 1, i'll do _____ and see where it goes. Thanks!
