Im eventually wanting to get an RX-8 **** so if I have to compensate for that somehow let me know... What all are the best and what should I expect to pay for them? Any good places I should buy one from?

Either get one from higgi on the forum or mazdatrix. Read the FAQ on the mazdatrix page so you know what you might be getting into.

http://mazdatrix.com/g4.htm

EDIT: Forgot to mention that you will need an s5 short shifter since the rx-8 **** will not fit on s4 shifters.

-So I should be expecting to pay $150-$200 for one?

RX7CZ.NET
Short-throw shift kit for FC and FB
CNC machined from billet steel
Longer threaded part (u could cut it to have it shorted if u want).
Does include all necessary parts to get you running. (shifter, bolts,
2 piece spacer, stud)
Does not include bushings or boots.

Mazdatrix
The one-piece lever is made on an NC lathe from billet steel. They retain original shift **** threads for each year/model, and are supplied with new upper AND lower bushings, plus a new shift lever boot. Each lever comes with needed hardware and installation instructions.

-What are bushings and boots?
*Do I need them?
**If so, where do I get them and for how much?

-What does the term 'S4' and/or 'S5' mean? Size? Of the threads? Or length of shifter?
*How do I tell if what Im buying is an S4 or S5?
**Will I have to specify this or are sizes custom on order anyways?
***If I get an 'S5' can I use my stock 88 **** on it for the time being?

-Whos Higgy?

Shifter lever has two bushings which help it operate.

It depends.  If you have a "loose" shifter, it is highly recommended.

Any Mazda dealer can get them for you.  Typical prices are between $30 - $50.

Do you even read any of the threads?  There's a sticky on top that details this.  S4 = 1986 - 1988.  S5 = 1989 - 1991.

Size? Of the threads? Or length of shifter?
Why does this concern you?  Just get the proper year shifter your your vehicle.

See above.

NO.

-Whos Higgy?
His nick is hIGGI.  Click the above links.

I also have them in stock.

I would highly recommend you read all the threads for the next month before asking more questions.  Also, use the search function above.  You are asking very fundamental questions which are repeatedly answered all over this section.  You might be able to answer all your questions by yourself before dumping all kinds of questions unnecessarily.  READ THE STICKYS AT THE TOP.

Yeah, sorry, it's not everyday people ask 10 questions in one post when the majority of it can easily be found by looking at the stickies and using the search function.

I fucked up, and I won't be adding to the thread anymore.

So even though an S5 short shifter is meant for 89-91 models I can still order one for my 88? Or will I have to tell them that I want an 88 short shifter with S5 threads?

I dont know if they can get you an s4 shifter with s5 threads, but i ordered a short shifter from mazdatrix, and its great. Ive never seen a car with one made by a different company, so i cant tell you if one is better than the other, i just know mines great and i paid about $200 for it.

First.. quit being a Dick.. RETed was trying to help your sorry ***...

Second.... the RX-8 is a six speed... with a six speed ****... THE FRIGGIN SHiFT **** will not make the car go faster, shift better or GET YOU LAID... All you are going to accomplish is to put a 6 speed **** on the shift lever of a FIVE SPEED car and therefore RICE UP YOUR CAR.

Where the hell is my flamethrower

Oh good, another retard on the rx-7 boards... Maybe you should think before you open your stupid mouth...

Any who, I found out that apparently even though an S5 is labeled as '89-91', previous years can still install them... I guess S5 and S4 really only alludes to when that size was introduced and/or used...
