Longer Gears in an FC

Has anyone put longer gears in there FC, say..... a rear end from an FD? Or is anything like this offered. Just wondering, because I would think that even big turbo FCs dont stand a chance against the mid 90's twin turbo japenese cars on the highway, because of gearing. I hear they are limited to somewhere around 130-140 while most other cars in the 90 (FDs, Z32s, Supras, 3000GTs) are geared for speeds near or above 170mph.

i thought the FC (turboII) and the FD both had 4.1 ratio diffs, Mine does more than 140, do you mean early models S4 turbo's or EGI.

A 4.3 diff will make the top speed even lower....... surely

the other option is to make your engine suitable for 8500k rpm, thats what i did

Yeah. I think he meant taller gears... like.. bigger ratio 4.30 rather than 4.10.. Not for speed, for acceleration.

Am I correct? If not... I agree with Mort. Going 130 on the highway is retarded.

Oopps I read it to fast he is putting taller gears in. 130 on the highway is NOT THAT BAD GUYS. Have you guys raced a single turbo supra??? I don't think they will be doing any 30 punches. More like 70 punches to 150+

i think he means that the top speed is not enough which means he needs taller longer gears ie a 3.9 diff would do it, i think it gives another 8 - mph top end. We put a auto FD diff in out 20b engine'd FD to calm things down a little as the gears went sooo fast.

So going from a 4.10 rear end to a 3.90 out of an automatic would net you how many mph? I don't now the formula or I would figure it out myself

Yer gay. I think most people will agree that racing that fast on public roads is retarded. Not only does it endanger your life as well as your passenger, but other people on the road as well. Go to the track and race responsbily. From your "I want to go 150mph on public roads" idea, I'm going to assume you are young and inexperienced. Get a couple more years of legal racing experience under your belt before you start endangering others.

BTW, If I were to buy the FC over the FD. That would leave me plenty of money for the turbo swap, Larger Turbo, Supporting Mods, and Coilovers. Plus It would be hella cheaper for insurance, car would be paid off, so I would always have money to put into it.

Oh and I may not be "experienced" But I have made a few passes in my Z over 160mph. It's not like this is something new to me

How does that justify it? Just because you've done it a few times doesn't make it okay. Its still reckless and retarded.

Keep your Z. I'd much rather you totalled it instead of a 7. Just try not to kill anybody.. .Please.

Huh??? 4th gear can do nearly 150??? Thats really long gearing, you sure that is right? You say 5th gear is useless, but how much power do you have to push it?

who the **** races to more than 130 anyways.. let alone 170. if you are doing 145 racing on the street, i hope you get pulled over, casue issued reckless ticket, licence removed, car towed, and you go to jail. you are stupid for even saying you do that fast on public highways. you are the ******* that gives all of us good divers a bad name. grow the **** up, and get off the damn street.

You won't have the power to use the taller gears most likely. Power is the limiting factor, not gearing.

Going above 100 is stupid, pointless and dangerous. It's guys like you that make all of us performance enthusiasts look bad. If you want to do over 100 on public roads, then go to the Silver State Classic race where you can go as fast as you want on closed public roads.

Lets keep the racing to the tracks now people. I don't want to be killed by some pumk kid who just wants a quick thrill. Besides, how shitty do you think you're life's gonna get when it all catches up to you and you hurt someone?

Common' man. It's not a crime against mankind. There are PLENTY of turbo cars out there that just seem like they are made for top speed

well look at the good side, at least he will be loosing power by going to the N/A. he will have trouble hitting above 125 with that car. so i guess he will be less dangerous in the rx7 than in the TT 300ZX... but i smell BS anyways....

Get this through your head. Its stupid and you will kill someone. Knock it off. I dont care if you die, but the other person you will in the process doesnt deserve to die.
