Long story, quick Q: OMP
Okay, those who remember may recall I was around here askign about engine smoke and admittedly being a bit of a mosquito. I had concluded Lucy needed a rebuild and resigned myself to not going over 4500rpm. Well, I recently came back from a camping trip and after pulling over to restart the car so the tachometer would reativate, I wanted to check under the hood as I had smelled a whiff of smoke after trying the AC unsucessfully. I opened the hood and was alarmed at the smoke comign off the engine. I had dad cut the engine and found the smoke to be rising out of the exhaust-manifold area. concerned, I looked under the car and found the source, a thin, fresh layer of oil on the underside of the cat/manifold which was burning off slowly.
So, could it be a loose fitting on the metering pump or something else leaking oil?
(BTW, while up in Muskegon I found a long, deserted stretch of fairly smooth roadway. Didn't go over 90 or 6000, and the engine was smooth as butter during and after, as well as any driving done)
thanks.

Oil control o-rings are dead - this is why the engine is smoking in the first place...
Now the engine is spitting enough oil that it's getting into the exhaust system.
This is why you see oil seeping through all the mating flanges of the exhaust.
Check the spark plugs - they should be crusty from trying to burn all the excessive oil.

Just removed and photo'ed the upper plugs.
Here is the fore plug:

And here is the aft one:

I'm not sure how to read plugs; is this crusty?

Well, the smoke made me think that the oil control rings were bad, and I want to take her to the local track (Ginger Man Raceay) before I go off to College. I always assumed that something evil would happen if I loaded the engine too much with bad internal seals/components. And if it isn't the engine, I want to find the source of the smoke as I don't think that the track officials would appreciate having a four-wheeled smoke generator on the track.
