I am about to be making a trip from Seattle, WA to Wilmington, NC roughfully about 3400 miles. My 1988 Turbo II RX-7 had its engine replaced by a dealer about 8,000 miles ago and runs fine other than sometimes It starts and dies but only when it first starts. I was wondering if there is anything I need to worry about driving the car for like 8 hours a day. I maybe the trip once with a 94 3000gt and it did the trip no problem, so I am hoping the FC can handle the same task

Any input would be very helpful!!!

just make sure you have a supply of coolant, and oil, incase of any leakage, and some duct tape. I know people freak, but its a car, and will be fine for the trip, assuming everything is in running order. Make sure all the fluids are topped, change the oil before you leave, and maybe around 2k change the oil again. Each morning check the fluids as well, and i recommend not fooling around to much, no top end runs, unless your close to your destination, incase you break down. Ive never done any trips across america, but I used to do 500 mile trips easy

 

Yeah, oil is definitely key. I generally carry 2 qts. in the spare tire.

Years ago, I had an oil cooler line crack in the middle of BFE, and had to stockpile oil to finish the trip. No fun.

I also carry a spare alternator/water pump belt.

 

a t2 is just like any other old car... as long as everything is well maintained and in good order, then you should be perfectly fine.... but things can always happen.... only thing to do is to take it on the trip and let us know how it did..

one big thing people tend to forget about is to check the air in your spare tire.... and make sure all your roadside equipment is on hand and working properly.. last thing you need is to be stuck somewhere w/ a flat and no way to fix it

 

Made it from Montana to Southern California fine in my 88TII. Coolant was the issue, just make sure it is filled up full. Very annoying to hear that buzzer for 20 miles or more. Did the whole drive in 17 hours and the I way pretty proud of the old' rotary.

 

A few years ago I took my previous vert from MD to Panama City Florida. The trip took about 22 hours. (I got lost and seperated from my caravan) The car was fine. No leaks, no problems. The car was the sh!te at spring break too! Well worth the trip!

 

Make sure your tranny fluid is clean and up to it's proper level. Being constantly used for a long period of time on low fluid will cause it to seize. I had to learn the hard way .

 

ive done 1600 miles with mine, no issues.

 

I did from Kansas to indiana 750+ miles in 12hrs without a sweat. I bought the car out there and drove it home.

 

multiple 1000 mile trips and 2 777 mile trips and one 1500 mile trip no issues..
