Lock tumblers repair

Has anybody pulled a lock apart to clean or fix or change the tumblers?

My 86 has a different key for the Hatch and the other locks are sticking. So if I can get them apart I’ll work on them.
A thread from 2nd gen says to turn the front cover until the tabs on the front cover line up to the notches and remove the cover

But I can’t see any tabs on mine

I clean my locks with brake cleaner, then relube them with white lithium grease, spray can with a straw.

I tried both brake cleaner and carb cleaner.

I think they have paint inside

also I like to get rid of the extra key

buy a lock set and replace all the tumblers. altho then you have a different ignition key than door key. i believe mazda sells an entire set (ignition, rear hatch and both doors) but im su re its pricey

I just did this with my '88 Vert. The guy sold me the car with a key that didn't fit any of the locks. I took a small pick and pryed the chrome ring off of each lock cylinder, put the key in and then pulled the cylinder barrel out. What you should see is the tops of each tumbler should be flush with the outer surface of the barrel when the key is inserted. As the key wears, a few of the tumblers don't get pulled down far enough and the barrel will bind or stick in the housing. What you can do to fix this is to file or grind the top of the tumblers that aren't flush until all of them are. Be sure to put your finger across the top of all of the tumblers before you pull the key out of the barrel, to prevent the tumblers from flying out, causing a headache. In the case of having the wrong key, some of the tumblers may stick way up when the key is inserted and then you can mix and swap tumblers until you get all of them to fit close to flush, then file to get them completely flush. Then use graphite powder or light machine oil to lube the tumblers and put it all back together. The little plastic door and spring are tricky to get back in, but persistence will prevail You can use the key that fits your hatch lock and file/swap the tumblers in your door locks and other locks so you'll have one key that fits all locks.
