A little tranny problem, cant go into second

I cant go into second gear, well I just cant downshift into it. I can shift into it from first as fast a I want. but when I downshift it feels like something is blocking it, I have to really pull on it to make it go in, id say a good 20 pounds of pressure, and when it goes in its fine>? My shifter bushing is bad, I wouldent even call it a bushing.... but yeah, this really sucks any ideas? The tranny has 118,000 miles on it, and doesnt grind anything but 3rd a little bit..... its on an 87 na...... thanks for any help

Bushings would be a big help then diagnose your problem from there. -Gabe

maybe you need to rev your engine a little bit more when downshifting, and bushings couldnt hurt

I misread. what speed are you trying to downshift to?
There is a block out that wont let you go into whatever gear if your going to fast and yes it feels like a wall then all the sudden when you get to a slow enough speed it just opens like open sesame or something -Gabe

the same thing happens to me only it happens when i go from 2nd to 1st, also i have new bushings so i know thats not the problem, it feels like its hanging on somethig thats the best way i can describe it. Also it normally happens early in the morning during the first downshift, which i think is the problem...the cold. im too worried about it, im saving up so i can do a total rebuild when the engine goes

honestly i think its the cold doing a number on our transmissions. perhaps the gears, or perhaps soomething in the transmission is contracting and it takes some time to work it out and let it heat up and get good and warm. I honestly don't mind it too much. If it gets so terrible that you can't move it at all, then go to a transmission guy to have them look at it. that would be your best bet.
