Question Little gold box?

There is a little gold box on the right hand side of the passenger compartment under the dash. It is right beside where the front speaker would mount. What is it? And do I need it? I have it out right now, and it doesn't seem to be affecting the car in any way........ I have an S4 T2, and I notice the S5 doesn't have it.

Are you sure about that, cause this box doesn't affect my power steering in the least. I've been looking through manuals and it looks like it might be the theft deterent control box, but I'm not positve.

It's the anti-theft control box. Leave it in.

But do I really need it? I have an aftermarket alarm, and the factory one doesn't work anyways.........

Power steering CPU is on the drivers side.

as mentioned above it is the factory theft unit. I too would leave it be even if there is an aftermarket alarm on the car, as every step you can cause a theft to take makes your car that much harder to steal.

And most people that think the factory alarm doesn;t work, just do not know how to arm it.

Acually it's not that I don't know how to arm it.......... It's that it's basically rendered useless due to the fact that the horn CPU, is absolutely "toast" in my car! I noticed that the previous owner tried to do the cold solder joints, but failed to do it correctly! Some of the solder joints are touching which caused the curcuit to short. (dumbass). He also cut out the warnig buzzers for some unknown reason. I guess this leads me to the fact that I need a new CPU!

It was not available in 86, and an option for most 87 models.

Various models after that had it as either standard or optional (but dealer installable).

If the buzzer is on all the time you have something broken or not functioning on your car.

If you fix what is broken then the buzzer will go away.

If you don't fix what is broken (and just micky mouse the buzzer) more things will break until the car is undriveable.

I have a rebuilt FB01 (base, Sport, Luxury coupe, vert, GTU) that I can sell you for $40 with shipping.

yes if the CPU is not fuctioning then neither the light flash, or horn will work on the factory alarm, as well as the system may not arm correctly.

The warning buzzer is annoying for a very, very, good reason. You need to stop driving your car and figure out what is causing it to go off, not try and disable it.

Thanks, for the offer but, I believe I can get one from a local yard. Thanks. Will the FB01 still work on the T2? It's the only one you didn't mention......

A FB01 or a FB05 will work on a S4 T2, but only my rebuilt FB01s and a factory FB05 will allow the ignition key light, and door handle light, and door handle light to still work.

In other words, the factory FB01 CPU normally does not control those lights.

mike ****** There you go again. Got it wrong the second time also. A violation of section 9 of the fsm does not, repeat, does not mean you have to disarm the theft unit. A violation of section 9 means you can still flog and subjugate your mechanics to your hearts delight with that buzzer, honking and beeping that go with a operational theft unit.

My motto: Make it work like it was meant to work. Then and only then rip it out. Just ripping things out will make you dumb as a rock.
