limited slip additive needed for '89 TII?
limited slip additive needed for '89 TII?
Guys,
Just got an '89 TII with 45,000 miles. I changed the gearbox oil and wanted to change the diff. oil. I've hear contradictory information about the oil to use. The owners manual says that if you have a limited slip unit, you need the special limited slip additive but I heard this was only for the clutch type. I thought the '89+ cars had viscous type diffs and did not need the additive. So.....anybody know for sure? By the way....that statement about the additive was in the owners manual for my '89.

are you sure about that? I had it changed (so I thought) by mazcare during my tuneup and replaced with redline synthetic (what they recommended).
I do trust these guys as there the best rotary shop in GA.

I see what your saying Scott. The rear diff oil can be changed but it's not the actual limited slip oil that gets drained/replaced, just the gear oil. Thanks for the info. guys.
