lights on with no key

when i put the battery back in and hook it up my side marker lights are on and the gauge lights are on as well also it beeps like the key is in the ignition but stops when the door is closed but the dash and side marker lights are still on. Any ideas what would be causing this.
edit: this is all happening with the light switch in the off position

possibly have the battery hooked up backwards? single black wire with yellow stripe is negative, double solid black wire is positive.

maybe, if you plugged in the plugs incorrectly. there is redundant plugs if you have the adapter harness with it.

Bad headlight switch.

HEADLIGHTS only come on if the headlight relay gets a GROUND from the headlight switch.

Side lights only come on if the contacts in the headlight switch make and POWER goes thru that set of contacts.

Therefore the headlight switch is kaput/stuck for unknown reasons.
