if you want a switch to determine if the retractor fuse is on or not, go to radio shack, buy a two setting switch capable of handling 30 amps, cut the wire going to the retractor fuse (i think its the green stripe one), splice both ends of the wire with new wire, run the new wire to the interior, splice the switch with the wire, mount the switch. hoooray
I feel happier cuting a bit into console to make it work this way than adding any single other switch. Adding unoriginal svitches always sucks - b/c there are three options how to do that 1) you hide em (hard to reach) 2)you let them hang on wires (this sucks most) 3)cut holes into dashboard (is that really better than cutting into switch??)
To sumarize: your solution with switch from fusebox does exactly the same as mine, besides when you want to open lights while lights off you have to use two switchs instead of one. Your solution costs 1 switch and some meters of wire, mine is for free. Your solution is on high amp side, mine is on low amp side. So which one is better??

The idea is that headlight cleaner switch brings 12 volts next to left headlight (its low amp 12 volts so take care) You can use this lead to relay some volts straight into motors - this has to solved b/c i quess if u move the motor a bit, it will come round back up automaticly.

Oh damn me. I finally caught the idea of adding switch - it does the same as mine solution but you can stop your lights in sleepy eyes positon. So please dont fire me down to ashes, sleepy eyes idea came to me after making my mod. But yeah if you want sleepy eyes quick and easy, go for switch solution. I will still try to make headlight cleaner switch solution- but only b/c it seems user friendly to me (I love the idea of controlling it just by stock switches) But i agree the simple switch solution works great here.

Luciou$ --> If you can determine a way to stop the lights in any position using the cleaner switch, definitely post it here. I've been looking over the FSM and my car and have decided I can't do it (for lack of wanting to **** with my wiring too much. I'll just be going with the switch controlling the retractor power since it is still using a stock switch for me. Good luck and let us know if you come up with anything.

If you want to do it yourself, just take out cluster switch (follow FSM, or your intuition) pop off that plastic cover from left side and u should see something like the picture above. use small drill or sharp screwdriver or whatever to cut that conection as shown. This works fine for me, but i actaully think about adding some switch for bringing it back to stock on demand (when someone else drives my car or whatever)
Just to be sure tho, when you did this, you turn the headlight switch all the way to make the headlights come on through the FTP lenses? then when you want the headlights up, all you do is turn the other **** that makes the lights pop up? just want this to be very very clear since i've been wanting to do this the past couple of weeks and just found this thread.

jeremy, why not just make a switch for the lights while down, like aaron cake explained? The car already comes with a switch that controls the motors without turning the lights on. It seems to me all you really need is a light switch, no?

i don't want to have to get an external switch. the car comes with a switch for the lights and a switch for the motors. if i can make the two switches work independently, then that would be best. Also, if you do want to use a switch, put it on the Red/Blue wire coming out of the headlight switch. that wire controls the motors to come up. if you use a momentary switch, you can turn the lights on and tap the switch for droopies. you can use the cleaner motor switch or the head light switch. depends on whether you want the lights on or not.
