I had the exact same problem. It can be expensive or realativly cheap. One go to mazdatrix or the dealer and spend $300 on a new light switch control box thing, or go to a junkyard and get on there for $80. I got mine from a junkyard w/warranty.
You need to remove the black surround around your gages. The switch is the vertical one. I suggest you go to the junkyard and hopefully they will show you how to rmove and replace it.
I am almost 100% sure this will solve your problem, those boxes seem to crap out a lot. I hope this makes sense. Before you do this do double check all your fuses, however, more than likely it going to cost you $80. Good luck

$80?! You can get used switches all day for $20 around here...You got ripped off. Switches are usually cheaper at "pick and pull" type places.

Holy ****, the place I go to Roy Y, sells them for 75 plus tax was 80, christ if mine goes out again I am going to contact you. Thanks for letting me know. Atleast I didn't pay $300 at the dealer or mazdatrix. :=)

Yes they’re on a 15A fuse in the fuse box beside your left foot.

Guys, he asked about a fuse and you point him to a $300 light switch! Check the simple things first!

I believe I pointed him to check the fuse, but more it quite possibly is the switch. As a rule in my family when something goes wrong its always the most expensive and at the worst time. hehehe

I work for a motor coach company. We just took 25 Mazda mechanics to the airport. Our bus driver and I were discussing my 91 vert no insturment lights, no radio button lights, no side marker lights, no tail lights. He told the mechaincs they had 25 minutes (time to airport) to figure out my problem. I of course had my electrical diaghram with me....they said fuse first.
Just starting to trouble shoot this weekend. Now driving old reliable 89 vert...

Please, oh please check the fuses first. I'd much rather see you spend a couple dollars on a fuse that $300 or even $80 on something that is likely, not the problem.

Like the others mentioned, check the simple things first.
