Exclamation Lets get this thing to start

Ok.... I just put a known good engine into my car. During the install I removed PS, A/C, OMP, Heater, vent controls, stereo, etc... Trying to start the car last night it acts as though it is getting no spark.. Plenty of fuel but no spark. In addition the only warning lights I get when I turn the key to the on position is the brake warning light and the clock. The rest are not lighting up. Does anyone know of a missed connection or problem that would give these symptoms? Any ideas on what to try?

If you think it's getting no spark, hook up a timing light and find out. Good luck.

I'll start your car for you if you'll come over and get my garden tiller to start. DAmn thing has pulled my arm out of its socket. Have you pulled the small white connector off the LEAD coil assy and checked to see if there is 12v on the black wire with a yellow stripe. If no 12v check the fuses in the engine bay. If you have 12 on the black and yellow wire mentioned above, pull one of the lead plug wires off(bottom plug wire) and lay the end of the wire close to one of the studs on the strut tower. Crank the engine and see if there is spark. edit: also check the fuses next to your left foot. Forth row from the bottom, third fuse from your left.

Thanks for the idea XLR8... well I got the thing to start, unfortunately it blew an oil cooler line at the same time. Nothing like 5 quarts of oil shooting out all over your garage under pressure. Good thing my ss lines are on order.
But, the idiot light problem is still present. Only the brake warning light and clock light up. I've tried different ECUs, checked the fuses, and run through the wiring several times. I can't see anything out of place. Any idea on what would stop all the idiot lights from working?

The whole idiot light assembly is controlled by the CPU (not ECU, which is what is under the passenger carpet) which is behind the drivers side kick panel. You might take it out and make sure all the connections still look good and resolder any if necessary. I had a problem with mine that needed some resoldering. I actually checked for continuity between the connection points and various points on the board, and actually found a couple of the connection spades that needed resoldering. If you have a wiring diagram, you can also check for continuity between the CPU and the idiot light assembly.

Make sure the small two wire connector on the altenator is connected and both wires are on solid. That connnection to the CPU is what pulls in a relay in the CPU to turn the idiot lilghts on. If the lites worked prior to the work being accomplished now, then most likely thats the problem at this time. Its the small WB, white and black stripe wire on the altenator. The other possibility is the BG wire on the CPU plug that goes to a 10a fuse on the inside fuse box. Its on the third row from the bottom, far left fuse.
