Thank God I live here, though. I drove by a cop open header (unimaginably loud) and he just waved at me and kept going. I went to get my inspection and the guy said "I can't pass you because you have an exhaust leak. Go down the road to whats-his-name, he'll pass you for sure." And he did
But a downpipe is another one of those you-won't-get-caught things. If you have a cat, and nothing is polished and shiny, how are they going to know it's not stock?

Bad news. It's part of the implied consent laws in Cali. Just like taking a breathalyser test. If you operate a motor vehicle, with a license, then according to the state you authorize them to inspect your car for illegal modification.

That's not true. They need reasonable cause.

However, reasonable cause doesn't require a whole hell of a lot. A body kit, loud exhaust, or extra guages are good examples of reasonable cause.

yes in california they have a law that if you get caught street racing they perminently impound your car and crush it. They can legally keep it to because its evidence in a crime.

It sure is nice to live in nevada! No emissions, and cops arent as bad when it comes to being an *******. They still profile like none other though. If you have an import you better watch out, because they love to pull people over for exhaust. Yet not surprisingly, when hot august nights rolls around, if you have V8 with open headers they just give you a thumbs up and pull over the import who has a full exhaust.

I think the SCCA fees are nothing when compared to losing the car, fines, penalties and other monetary losses. I understand why, makes me want to keep it on the track.

What do you mean no emissions? NV Requires emissions testing back to like the 60s models or some **** for cars...

true that, but I'm picturing some random ricer passing you on the highway flipping you off and taunting you, gunning it to beat his ***, passing a cop, and getting your car crushed!

Dunno about the entire state of Nevada, but Las Vegas (i.e. Clark County) sure does have emission testing...

Remember, the police work for us!!! They keep us safe, and protect us. So why are we all afraid of them? Ask anyone what the first thing they think when they see a cop behind them. 1. Oh good, i'm going to be very safe for a little while. 2.Wow, our states finest, i wish i was like them. 3. Oh **** what am i doing wrong>!>!??

As far as turbos, get a BNR they fit under your stock heat sheild, they wont even see that damn thing.

As far as warrents. HHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Good luck using that one. They will put you in the car for some bullshit reason and then they can search your car. In fact, it is easier to search your car then to search your purse(for the ladys of course)

You can get away with pretty much anything so long as your smart about it.

I reffed my car for a street legal 13b-rew swap. At the time of the swap I had a huge ebay FMIC, which is legal according to the BAR but not legal according to carb (the exact words used by the smog ref, he said they follow carb not BAR).

The intercooler and all piping was painted black, and the smog reff assumed it was the stock intercooler and said it was a good idea for me to fit it in the bumper (his words).

I also had an ebay downpipe with a cheap catco converter (just one) downpipe painted black. (he didn't notice that and he did put my car on a lift).

The only thing he did notice was my carb legal HKS intake which he put on the reff sticker.

Best thing to do is keep at least a main cat (even hollowed) of some type and an air pump.

These two items and a generally otherwise stock looking engine bay (nothing shiny) will get you past just about any cop.
