This is the reason I've been looking at the LED mod... I HATE stepping on the brakes and watching the voltage drop when the car is at idle.

You have to think about it this way.. Conventional bulbs are basically a resistor... electricity is turned into heat, enough heat to make light, in the filament. A LED still creates heat, but the efficiency factor is through the roof.

An LED system with a comparable light output of the standard tail light bulbs will use 1/20 to 1/40 the current depending on the LED's used. That leaves a lot of current left over for other uses... Like the horribly inefficient amplifiers in my stereo system!!

I think, because of their round light design, the S-5 versions should be easier to convert to LED's using the truck style light inserts (make sure you get 12v lights instead of 24 that most trucks use)

if done right, they are brighter, look better, and use less amperage. look at clearcorners man. they have a side by side comparison

I like the ring look on the 180sx pics as well. On the S5 this should be reasonably easy to do, maybe just add the ring for the parking lights and then a High intensity LED Bulb in the regular position for brakes and as a fill lamp when the parking lights are on?

This way you just have to figure how to add in the outer ring, if done right it may even be removed later if un-wanted

could do that too
the ring style would be harder to do
a full on double circle LED would be very easy, it would only require one circuit.
maybe ill go to radioshack today
nah, **** that, they have the markup of a corner store/gasstation
anyone know where i can get cheap(er) LEDS?
theres got to be some weird place
(like how i go to lowes and home depot for most of my cars nuts and bolts)

Try www.digikey.com or a google search on LED's, I know that there is a couple of sites that specialize in LED sales over the internet, much better prices then Radio Shack too!

Here is the best 3 sites that I have found:

http://www.theledlight.com/led-specs.html

http://www.superbrightleds.com/

http://shop.dotlight.net/shop/index.php/language/en

most LEDS on it will be red, seeing as the best price ive found is 45 cents per LED
the white/reverse section is going to be costly...
back to the haligen center idea, i dont think that will work, if the outer ring was composed of red LEDS and then the innter was a white halogen, the light shining though would be much brighter, and could possibly look weird.
i think ill have to to the center w/ LEDs as well.
45c tho isnt that bad
and the orange for turn signals wont be bad either.
they are 45c also

Here is the ring idea I was talking about...

Too bad they are very expensive!

They would be cool though

http://www.theledlight.com/pdf/LuxeonRingData.pdf

The inexpensive way would be to make one of these from individual LED's, lots of work though!

Yo,

I've looked into this before:

http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/aut1157m/

But they're damn expensive.

For giggles, I just put in "LED 1157" into Google and it spit this out:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/1157.htm

Then this:

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...gi?product=CAR

Woah, only $6.99 instead of $50 each?! Swchweet.

I'm gonna look into it more.

So does anyone sell an OEM replacement type bulb for our cars that is also going to be bright enough?

I looked at the page rarest psosted. will those bulbs be suitable? This seems liek a great idea for our cars with the weak alternators in most of our cars.

im going to go ahead and work over my s4's with an LED setup, youll see how theyll work out.
