Leather questions ...

I know a leather steering wheel and leather seats were offered.... What about leather door panels? Or leather door pulls?

These probably wouldn't be in good condition after 15 years, would they?

When you got a 2nd gen with leather interior, you got -

Leather seats
Leather wrapped steering wheel
Leather door panel inserts (just the one panel on the door, that's it)

The '89-91 cars added -
Leather wrapped shift ****
Leather wrapped parking brake handle

The leather shift **** and parking brake handle were a bad idea - they usually get REALLY chewed up. Mazda has never really used a good grade of leather, and it chews up pretty bad.

The shift boots are all vinyl/"pleather", BTW.

Also, the leather door panel inserts on the '89-91 cars are different - I've seen some that were perforated leather, and some that were pleated. All '86-88 door panel leather inserts are just flat material.

Huh. Are these door panels easy to find? If not, I'm going to have to proceed with my original plan, which is just to do it myself, by hand, with leather hides that I bought.

It can be tricky to find door panels that are in good shape. Really, I would just take your door panel and cover that one piece with leather. If you look at the back of the door panel, that piece can be easily removed from the door panel to be recovered - it's like SUPER easy.

My TII's black leather interior is absolutely perfect. I think I must be the only person in the world who is able to say that.

Okay, I'm going to have to do it myself, I've decided. Do you guys know what Super 77 and Super 90 do to leather? Because I might be using a lot of this 3M stuff...
