least amount of mods to do

Hey all

i have noticed as with upgrading a TII with simple things it soon becoems complex with boost creep and keeping it under control.

all i want to do is ad a turbo back RB exhuast. what i dont want to do is buy all this other fiddly electronics that supposedly go with it. but whats the LEAST amount i can do??

IF i just bought a RB turbo back exhaust, what would i have to do/buy in order to keep it running smoothly? for the smallest cost, roughly 400 not including the exhaust

Really its all about porting the wastegate. I mean the high flow exhaust will add a little HP off the bat, but its the potential HP you can get with that exhaust that opens up a gateway to a whole lot of other things.

I'd just do the biggest port job on the internal wastegate if I were you, pay a machine shop to do it. If you want to start increasing boost reliable from stock AFTER the exhaust, its going to cost more than 400$.
The stock turbo is good for stock boost levels. I'd personally, if I were you, save up for the fuel cut defence (or make your own), an HKS manifold, a garrett t61 turbo and some larger injectors, not to mention fuel pump. Gonna spend a about 1500USD but it would be a very substantial upgrade. You could also change your top mount intercooler, and place it in the front of the vehicle for another bit of reliability.

Man you could easily spend like 3 grand on parts for that car.... Get yourself that exhaust, port the wastegate, and fab yourself up a cold air intake as well. Will defenitly help for performance without raising boost.

basically what blackplague said if you just want the exhaust done then you will be best off porting the wastegate so you dont get boost creep and get a fcd installed

the LEAST amount you can do, well you need a fuel cut defense of some sort, if you port the wastegate you may not be able to boost alot of psi so might need a boost controller. The stock turbo can definantly blow more pressure but the intake air temps will go up so upgrading to a frount mount intercooler will probably make up for it and is alot cheaper than some HKS turbo or whatever. rewire the fuel pump (try 1300cc.com). While your in there with that exhaust try and replace the oxygen sensor, we sell them at Advance Auto Parts for like $18. good luck.

port the wastegate so you don't get boost creep.
FCD so you won't go lean (and blow your motor).
rewire fuel pump (same as above).
boost gauge so you can monitor your boost.
boost controller (you can make one with $10 of home depot parts) to control your boost.

i think this is what i will go with, i can port the wastegate to a fairly larger size cheaply and the FCD from RB is only $90 and then i need to find a decent boost gauge and i'll just buy that XS manual boost gauge

well under my limit and leaves me with some money for some KYBs
