leaking fuel need help
today at a stoplight i noticed a stong small of gas coming from my car. when i got home i looked under the hood, and sure enough i found some gas that had leaked out.
recently i noticed when i would race my car, it would start to overheat.(not over heat but would run really hot) could that be from the gas leaking out at the higher rpm and make the mixture really lean, causing the over heating.

Post likely the pulsation dampener. To find it, you have to get under the hood and look. Not to sound like a smart ***, but your not going to find the leak on the forum. Make sure there are no standing puddles of fuel on the engine or exhaust manifold, start the engine, and look at the fuel lines and fuel rails. Its the only place fuel goes. If you don't see anything, grab the throttle lever on the throttle body and slowly turn it (or have someone slowly press the gas pedal) and keep looking around as the engine accelerates. You'll find it.
do that when the uim is still on, and i did not mean for you to tell me what was leaking i ment is their something that is a common brake and that might be the possible leak.

Definitely check the pulsation dampner, on the front side of the primary fuel rail, just under the throttle body and upper intake manifold, little cylindrical thing that feels kinda squishy, if I recall. I think they're fairly expensive, but not too bad relative to a burnt up wiring harness/car.
Might also be a fuel line -- washington gets lots of rain, are your lines all rusty? Check under the drivers side with a flashlight. This happened to me.
If you do take project84's advice and start the engine, might I suggest you have a fire extinguisher handy? It isn't a bad thing to have in the car anyway.
Good luck to you.

P.S. I had to do my lines up in an underground parking garage, which really sucked. Gas all over, felt like I was gettin a buzz. The old lady who parks next to me came by to shoot the **** and see what was going on with a lit cigarette. I was like, "uhh, ya, working on the car, talk to ya later..."

hey guys i just got done working on my car and i found that it was thepusation dampner. i had another won from my parts car. it does not leak any more, but for some reson it seams that it does not have guite the power at lower rpm's as it did before, and it has more high rpm. is this possible or is it all in my head.
ps. it is still running kind of hot could that be a bad thermistat?
