Leaking coolant , but from where?
Leaking coolant , but from where?
My 87 TII has begun to Mysteriosly leak , but no matter how hard I look I cant find out where its coming from .. it looks like it is dripping from the side of my engine along my intake manifold manifold , and I noticed that there is a bit pooled on the engine below my throttle body I have heard that a coolant hose runs from the block to the TB , but without pulling off my TB its hard to tell if thats what is leaking ... can anyone point me in the right direction?
look behind your upper intake manifold, there is a small hose (about 1/2-3/4" diameter) right next to the firewall that goes from the top of your intake to the top of the back of the block, that is aleast on a 88 non-turbo
I followed all the hoses I could reach back there and none of them appear to be leaking at all , there is a small one directly under neath my throttle and CC cable hookups , If I look straight down between the two I see a small hose , would that be my TB to rear-iron hose? , I cant quite reach it to see but...

none that I have experienced so far, but you do need to also remove the thermowax on the back side of the TB or your car will idle @~2000rpm like it's cold all the time. Plus the throttle is more responsive because you remove the dashpot and the second set of throttle plates.

just bring a length on the hose with you, as i recall it's 3/8 or 5/8 ID coolant and fuel tubing that comes off the reels at your auto store. but again BE WARNED if you try to just replace this hose that looks like a Z under your UIM you need at least 2 feet of it for a service loop. i tried this, once the engine and coolant started to warm up the hose soffened and kinked... so i romoved the problem and did the bypass.

I think your on the right track. Just follow the hose that connects to the thermowax its about 3'' long and drops down to the engine about 2". Its a bitch to get to. You prob. have to take the TB & UIM off, I had to. BTW if you do take them off and the hose has the spring clamp still on it get rid of it and put a new clamp on that you can use a screw driver or small scocket on makes life a lot easy-er when you need to get to it again. Hope this helps.
