Leading Coil?

Well i noticed that this FC i bought needed alota work, but today i went to check the timing, i put the timing light on the L1 wire, & nothing... OK well maybe its the light, put it on the T1 wire & it worked! I kept trying to get it to work but couldnt. While the car was running i pulled off the spark plug wires and nothing, no change in idle or anything, on both leading coils. I did it on the trailing coils (one at a time) and, bad idle, and i got shocked ofcourse. I then Had a parts car w/ one on it, i changed it and no change. I checked the ground and connections. If someone could give me some advice? thank you my fellow FCers
