large Volvo intercooler good economical FMIC choice?

I heard of quite a few TII owners upgrading to a FMIC and using a large volvo unti (740,760,etc). I bought one myself off ebay for $56 usd. (commanly sell for this price)
They are a good size (28x17.5x2.25) and from what I hear fit well. How well do they work?

I'd like to see you fit 28" wide in the "nose" of the FC very easily!

That's the overall size also... with the end tanks/tubes probably taking up a lot and maybe needing altering. This is jsut what I heard though.

Measuring in front of the radiator, I only managed to get 26" extreme width dimensions.&nbsp Now unless you got something radically altered from stock, 28" is going to be just too tight!

A-hah! Ted! Since you're measuring, what are the max dimensions behind the nosecone of your FC? Do you know if it differs for an 89+? and are you measuring with the styrofoam support removed or not?

I'd measure it myself, but I'm at work and all...

Those pics "shim" the stock radiator mount locations.
1986-1988 Zenki and 1989-1991 Kouki should have very similar dimensions - I'm talking about the area right below the stock hood latch.

Also IMO if you have a turbo large enough to fill that thing, putting that IC after it is the equivilant of putting cubic zerconium on the finger of Claudia Schiffer

I was considering the Volvo IC, even went as far as buying one but after measuring the internal flow area decided against it. Its larger in volume (380cu-in) vs the stocker (200cu-in) so should be better for heat soak but the internal flow volume is only 5.3sq-in vs 9.8sq-in for the stocker so more pressure drop than the stock unit, not good. The stocker is actually a decent IC, its just mounted in a sucky location.

Stocker:
11.5"x7"x2.5" core. 21 tubes, 3/16" high.

Volvo
17"x18"x1.25" core. 34 tubes, 2/16" high.
