Hey,
I may be able to get a good deal on a large Isuzu NPR Intercooler. I've measured one and it looks like i may be able to shoehorn it into the front of my TII (it'd probably have to go upside down). Is this IC going to work OK for me? I realize that the small NPR intercooler may work a bit better, but I haven't been able to find one around here (anybody know which NPR those came out of?)

So, will it work, or am i insane? It measures like 16.5" x 26-27 (the FC has 26" up front to work with, so i'd need to get a bit creative.

What kind of turbo?

 

I had that IC on my stock series 4 turbo, and it sucked! I saw like 4 lbs of pressure loss, and throttle response was awfull!

you cannot use it with your stock turbo. way to small. i am at full boost by 3500 with a .96 rear.

 

HN..hows the TII COsmo??..i need help tuning my E6K once i drop the motor in. Still have the same phone #??.

PISTON EATER. If you are not using the under tray you can install it upside down. I was gonna do that to my small NPR IC but ended up having it customized. The big NPR IC is very huge and you dont want to use it on a stock turbo. YOu will have a bigtime turbo lag.

 

UMMM actually Hypntyz has the small NPR. I know, I sold it to him. But for those of you wondering, the large one is HUGE. I think probably a little too big, plus it only flows 13 cfm more than the little ones. I have had both, and I think that the small one is better. The big one would be a PITA to fit and is twice the size of the little one. Plus it's ugly and flows less than 10% more. I bet the pressure drop is larger too. All in all, I would say go with the little NPR, which is still pretty big.

 

yup..a bit beefier than the Starion IC...

HN is using it because he has a COSMO engine and big turbo.

 

the little NPR should support 500 hp easily.

 

Who is selling the small one, though? I've only ever been able to find the big one. For a decent price, I may interested in buying one.

Im going to go with TurboGXL on this one, and say that thing is way too much of a monster, and most of its surface area is wasted. Id stick with a small NPR intercooler. The lag will kill you on a stock turbo.

I was selling them like crazy for $270 shipped but I sold the dozen or so I had QUICK!

The core dimensions of the small NPR are 19in x 2 in x 8.5 in. With 2 in outlet/inlets. Overall, about 31 in length by 11 in height. IIRC

The flow rate is like 129 cfm, with a 55000 btu heat reduction, pressure drop of .4 psi. Inlet temp of 240*F outlet temp of 160* F.

 

the benefit of the large one is ease of install and greater cooling than the smaller unit. the large one cannot be used on the stock turbo. i was using the large one with the stock cosmo twins and had no lag problems, sequentially or later on when i converted to non-sequential. now i have a 60-1 with a .96 exhaust, equall length tubular and have no substancially greater lag than stock.

 

HN..with the FMIC what should i use for ELBOW before the throttle body?..i kind of like the Greddy type elbow for the 3rd gens.
