Lack of bottom end power...normal or bad?

Ok, I know RX-7's, especially 'verts, especially autos, are notorious for low torque. However, my car just seems to be excessively low on the low-end. Let me tell you what it does, then you tell me if it's normal or not.

If at a dead stop, I let off the brake and floor the gas pedal, the car doesn't jerk at all, doesn't push you back in the seat, it actually feels like a normal acceleration. Certainly nothing capable of breaking the tires loose. Also, if I do the traditional "stall up", the car will stall up to the stall-rpm, but even under full throttle, the back tires wont break loose even on wet ground (dont worry, i've only tried this twice).

Now, my transmission is all jacked up, which I plan to fix by the end of the year. The previous owner let it run without fluid for too long, and now it shifts all weird, and it downshifts and slips often.

So, am I losing power to drive-train loss? Does the s5 Vert auto just have zero effective torque?

disclaimer: I have searched, found little directly useful information (involving transmission potential).

Thanks in advance, guys.

Best I can say after driving several auto-verts, they're fast at higher rpms but bottom end tends to be a bit lacking. There's enough power at 0-2500 rpms to get the job done, but I wouldn't jerk out infront of a semi anytime soon.

To directly address bottem end power, it's the same as a 5 speed. Make sure the 6 ports and VDI is working correclty (not siezed up) and put a good aftermarket exhaust with a racing catalytic converter on. Makes a HUGE!!! difference in overall power, bottom end, fuel economy, and quicker revs.

You have them stuck open if you have high end power but not low end power.
