kyb vs tokico: opinions wanted
i have a set of tanabe gf210's and need a set of struts. lost my chance for a set of cheap koni's so my next option is agx's vs illumina's. i want adjustable but want other peoples personal opinions. from what ive read the agx's have more adjustment but the illumina's are better quality.
i'm happy with my AGX so far, and i'm also using the Tanabe springs.
i have yet to go to the track/autocross with them, but even on the street i can tell they handle quite well and the adjustability is decent. also the AGX you can get for a really good price on ebay.
with that combo though the ride gets a bit harsh on bumpy roads. i was a little surprised, i didn't think it would be so bad.
also with the GF210 you don't want to run the AGX too soft since those springs are a higher rate for those shocks.

I recently had my suspension completely redone. I'm pretty much an RX-7 noob, so you may want to take this w/ a grain of salt.
I went w/ Racing Beat Springs & Sway Bars, & Tokico HP struts....
Originally, I had planned on doing this the barebones way, & order Eibach springs, & Tokico HP's from some EBay vendor. I wasnt even going to bother w/ the sway bars.
The Tokico's arrived in 2 days. After a month & a half of futzing w/ the spring vendor, & Eibach, I just got my money back... I was incredibly frustrated at this point, so I decided to go w/ Racing Beat & do the whole ball of wax, LCA bushings, motor mounts, tranny mounts, dif mounts, (Mazdaspeed Comp Rubber)
I was originally worried that the RB Springs would be a little too stiff for my daily driver tastes, but I was wrong. The car basically feels like its suction cupped to the ground at this point. The ONLY down side is, a little bit more vibration is transferred thru the body, but thats really more because of the stiffer mounts.
I am in no way disappointed that I went w/ the Tokico HP's, instead of the Illumina's. I'm not the sort of guy who's going to retune my rates all the time. So, unless you plan on retuning your shock dampening rates, I really dont know why anyone would need the adjustables for thier street car.

adjustables are good because even if you don't want to change settings between street and track, you may want to adjust the damping depending on what spring you are running. a shock can't be perfectly valved for every spring, so having adjustability compensates for that.
the RB spring rates are not much more than stock TII rates, so if you are looking for something more comfortable go with that.
something like the Tanabe GF210 is bordering on uncomfortable ride quality, for me anyways. but performance is great.

I have tokico hps and tein cheapo s-techs, it rides quite nicely... the springs are matched pretty well with the dampening, they're not too much stiffer than stock. If i could have gotten adjustables i would have, it seems like it would be nice for autocrossing and stuff.
