KYB AGX Settings.
Well, I just installed a set of KYB AGX shocks on my 86 N/A. These shocks make the car feel quite a bit different than before, because my old shocks were pretty worn out.
Overall, the shocks seem to work pretty well. The cornering limits definately seem to have been raised a notch or two.
My only complaint is that they are quite a bit stiffer than stock even on their soft settings. Currently I have stock springs, and have the fronts set on 1 and the rears set on 2. Even at these settings, it seems to be a bit bouncy, almost like the car is lowered.
I'm autocrossing on Sunday, so I'll see how they do on the course.
What settings is everyone using on the street and on the autocross course?

you need around 2 weeks until they "settle in".
what condition are the stock springs in ?
from the write-up at fc3s.org and side by side comparison, the worn out stock springs were lower than the aftermarket "lower" springs.
I can't really say what settings for you to set, because everything will play a factor. just like tire size and air pressure

I have run KYB AGX's on my '87 NA that I autocross. Have run 4 autocrosses on them.
First time out, I put them on full stiff just to see what they would do. Of course it felt much better than stock, but I got a lot of bounce it seemed from the rear. Some of the course workers even remarked about how unstable it looked.
I have since been running them a little softer. I understeer badly in the turnarounds and have been playing with the settings to try to get the car to "rotate" better. I ran Sunday in my first run with the fronts on 2 and the rears on 8. (trying to loosen the car up) and I again got the bounce. Ended up keeping the fronts on 3 and putting the rears on 6 and it worked pretty well for me. I have resigned myself to the fact that this car is going to understeer so I just need to go into the turnarounds slower.
I too am trying to stay in ESX (street tire) so I can't do too much with the rollbars and am learning to make my adjustments with the AGX's. Any input that you find after experimentation, please post it. Have a great day!

Well, I autocrossed Sunday for the first time with the AGX's. The bounciness seems to have gone down, and the shocks feel pretty good now. I seem to be having the same problem as you. No matter how I adjust the shocks or mess with tire pressures, I understeer like crazy. I am also running Falken Azenis tires with 38 pounds in all 4 tires. If I run at 36, I seem to get some roll over, so I set them at 38 and adjust the shocks to get the tail end loose.
My first run was set at 2 in the front and 4 in the rear. I was all over the place, but it mostly had to do with tire pressures getting too high as they heated up. I went to 3 in the front and 6 in the rear, and that felt pretty good, but I was still getting crazy understeer. I ended up running 3 in the front and 7 in the rear. This got the tail of the car pretty happy, but the front end would still not stick. This also netted me my fastest time of the day, but I was still 2.5 seconds off of the fastest guy in my class. (Those darn MR2's are fast on the course)
I'm pretty much like you, and have decided I'm just going to have to get used to understeer. I have the front tires dialed in for as much negative camber as I can get using the factory tolerances, but it's just not enough. There is another autocross this Sunday, and I'm getting an alignment before then, so I'll see where I'm at, and what I can do with alignment settings. Keep me informed on your progress.
