your AAS is simply a module that mounts on top of the strut....if you take the modules off and throw them away you can use any struts that the non-AAS FC can use. IMHO the AAS is worthless anyway..unless you keep it maintained all the time, which costs$$. Just can it and you wil be fine

The answer is yes. It's perfectly fine to replace the OEM AAS suspension with new performance stuff. You can just throw away all the actuators. Don't forget to ditch the AAS computer which is located in the spare tire well.
You can then re-label the switch in the center consile to say "Fire Passenger Ejection Seat" or something completely different
Cory
Didn't actually HAVE the AAS computer because the P.O.took it out to make space for a CD changer...Go figure.

I was just about to ask the same question. I talked RX-7 specialties here in Calgary and they said the exact same thing as above. Just ditch the actuator and they will work.
They also said that you have to add a little shim of some sort in when installing the new shocks or struts. Im not a 100% sure as to where or even if you need it?
anyone else know?

the AAS did work well when the car was new...back then a set of eibachs on an AAS car was sweet...it felt stock, was a bit lower and tightened up nicely when pushed thanks to forgiving progressive springs. these days, most of the AAS stuff is old and usually stuck and crudded up. most people here have replaced it with KYB's and some sort of spring or Tockico or Koni struts...think of AAS as an old form of the Tein EDFC albeit a lot less adustable and functional...same premise, same basic idea. KYB AGX's and most any spring available (except for intrax - just for lowering, poor spring rates/quality) blows most owners away compared to even a healthy stock setup. The FC chassis is extremely rigid, especially for it's age, and is very predictable and forgiving (except for those aging DTSS bushings).

on my 88GXL, the AAS worked. Regular driving, you couldn't notice a difference, but when pushing it, you could.
but on my 87GXL, which I have now, the struts were already replaced with non-adjustable when I bought it. Oh well. It is kinda worthless...just unneeded weight, if you ask me
