Koni or Tokicos?

Just wondering what everyone thinks is better. I don't need any adjustable suspension, just some upgraded springs/struts.

www.k2rd.com has the KYB AGX for less $$$ than the non ADJ tokicos. Koni?? To expensive for what I really need.

AGX's for sure! Reading your other thread, they'd probably help your launch a bit, too. Two birds with one stone kinda thing. Plus you can set them soft so your girl/girlies LIKE riding in the car.

Thumbs up Concencus seems to be...

for non-adjustables.

Best Handling- Tokicos

Best Ride- Koni's

Me, considering the extra weight of my Vert, I'm a Tokico fan.

So the KYBs are $355 for all 4? Hmm, thats an option. I really will never go to the trouble of adjusting them though. Oh but I saw at www.rx7store.net that the Tokico and Konis are the same price and the Konis have some way to adjust them. Take a look.

Even though, they cost less $$$ than the Tokicos & Konis. Why pay more?

The KYB AGX's are WAY ahead of the Tokico's and Koni's in design - they're really quality units. Not to mention everyone I know who has purchased non-adjustables eventually sold them for adjustables.

Again, the price is right - get 'em!

A friend of mine in our RX-7 club picked up the KYB AGX's for only $370 USD at www.coximport.com, and man can those things ever handle with the MUCH more expensive Tokicos and Koni's. I wouldn't even hesitate to buy them over the previously mentioned brands. That's my 2 cents.

How exactly are they adjustable? I mean is it just the ride or can they lower the car a little or what?

Ok, who here has used all 3 shocks?

I'll take their opinion. Otherwise, it's your experience against someone elses, and that's really useless.

However, if you want to understand more about choosing the right shocks, check out these two articles:

Springs

What's the deal with the KYB springs? I don't see them on the K2RD.com page. My friend has a set of the AGX with the springs on his Imprezza, and they're very nice, looking into getting the same.

Supposedly if you hit the Auto-X track for 2 events, you can get some tokico 5-way adjustable shocks from mazdacomp for REALLY cheap.... that's just what I heard.

First hand experience

I have two Verts, a S4 5 speed and an S5 automatic.

I put Tokico's in my 5 speed as that's my daily driver and my daily joy is driving the twisty's in and out of the canyon I live in. Stiffer ride, but better handling.

I put the Koni's in the Auto Vert as that is the car my wife and daughter drive from time to time. So, went for the more comfortable ride in that instance.

And, the difference is noticable between both Verts.

There, first hand experience.

Unfortunately, that's one thing Mazdacomp doesn't have really good prices on. Most aftermarket places like *** Imports or RD Enterprises can beat their suspension prices cold. Mazdacomp is best on Mazda parts - NO ONE can beat their Mazda parts prices.

I don't think KYB makes springs for the RX-7. The main "drop-in" spring manufacturers are Eibach, Suspension Techniques, Racing Beat, and Intrax.

I've driven cars with pretty much every suspension setup you can think of, and have owned Koni's and Tokico non-adjustables...how's that .

The KYB's have been tested on a shock dyno to be IDENTICAL to the old GAB shocks, which are kickass, heavy duty shocks.

Really, there is just no comparison - the AGX's are so damn cheap, and work so damn well, there's no reason to get anything else. The only reason I could think of is going with Ground Control coilovers that favor Koni shocks.
