knocking sound and no power

hey guys new to the site, but any who, I just bought a 7 from a guy i know i only paid like 700 bucks for it. The car its self runs good. but under hard acceleration i am getting a popping or hitting sound. If i run the car easy i don't get the sound i have read the other posts and threads on here but i cant seam to find the problem. i looked at the plugs today and saw that the bottom set of plugs were unplugged so i connected them back tried to start the car and it turned for like 1 sec and did not go past 500 RPMS. i thought i was out of gas so i get more. now the car will not even start. Should i replace the plugs or do something else

Oh and i dont know if this helps but i cant cruise in 5th grear under 85 mph if i do i ahve no power cant accelerate.

Thanks Jeff

First of all, what year/model of RX7?

If the bottom set of spark plugs were not even plugged in, something is seriously jacked up. The bottom plugs are the leading plugs, and do the majority of the ignition. The trailing plugs (top) finish the burn. You can get away with running no trailing, but I've never heard of anyone even trying it with no leads. That would lead to a seriously inefficient combustion reaction, no power & a rich beyond belief mixture. Depending on how long the previous owner ran the car like that, the cats are probably also melted solid.

Get yourself a Hanes manual or check the factor service manual for tests of the trailing and leading ignition coils, replace all the plugs & check the timing.

And with any new car, replace all fluids, hoses and belts, then read up on how to do adjust idle if needed.

you hooked up the Plugs wrong..Front coil wires go to the bottom plugs..doesn't matter which ones,as long it is the Bottom plugs on each Rotor,..the Rear Coil(trailing) the Plug wire nearest the front goes to the Top Front Plug, and the other wire Left over Obviously goes to the Rear Plug at the Top..That should make your Car run better with no Popping..if not there is something else wrong.

It will run... Just not very well. The bottom plugs are the important ones. You need to make sure they are connected to the right coils. Pick up a haynes manual and make sure the spark plugs are connected to the right connectors on the coils.

Another guy who bought a 7 from a retard...you already have a biased outlook on the car.

Run it like it was made to run, check your cattys I bet they are toast like one guy already said.

you're saying when you have spark plugs plugged in, you have no power ??? and when you have them unplugged you have more power?? make sure you have the right spark plugs in the right spots(there are leading and trailing plugs along with wires) leading on the bottom, trailing on top, and the coil packs say whether they are leading or trailing on them so just make sure u get it right. then check your timing. Haynes manual FTW
