There is one on the S5 turbo's I know... but I hear the ECU cannot tell the difference between knocking and normal operation above a certain RPM, so after that it ignores it. I have heard that you can get better sensors, but I don't know which ones.

I don't think my S5 NA had one, but I could be wrong.

Only Turbo FC's have knock sensors. They detect detonation (knocking, pinging) and retard ignition timing to stop it.

The old sensors in FC's are very sophisticated and over ~4,000rpm can't hear anything over the engine noise. They're mainly to prevent knocking caused by low-rpm lugging.

I assume you mean not very sophisticated

Do you have any experience with the J&S SafeGuard? I have seen too much knocking that the stock system doesn't eliminate and have been considering adding the J&S as a "safeguard".

My car is a TII has a 3" exhaust, ported wastegate, RRFPR running 10 psi. Getting to my current setup has involved blowing 2 engines (on cold days) so I am rather touchy about knocking.
