Just my opinion:
K&N drop-in replacement filter: Worth it if you plan on keeping the car a long time.
K&N FIPK: Not worth the money unless you want nothing to do with designing your own kit, otherwise worth it for TurboII or a highly-modified non-turbo.
K&N universal cone filter plus adapter: Not worth it for a stock non-turbo, worth it for TurboII or a highly-modified non-turbo.

With my TII, buying a universal K&N filter paid for itself rather quickly based on fuel savings. Plus it makes more power and unmuffles the turbo sound (which I like).
