K&N Air Intake

I just recently started working on my '87 TII, I replaced the motor and exhaust. The previous owner put a K&N Air Filter (like the one of a N/A) on the car, and eliminated the front air intake scoop and air box I was wondering if I should replace to the original air scoop thing or keep the K&N filter? I am 16 and looking to restore the car for a fun daily driver for myself. Will this greatly impact the performance? I just finished putting the engine in this weekend and was wondering if the filter would be good for the engine or not? Thanks

keep the kn filter, they are very good, but buy a headlight scoop to help get more air into it and u will get good power.

A K&N cone filter offers reduced air restriction which will increase the efficiency of the engine. However, without a duct for outside air, the hot air from the engine bay will reduce your engine's performance at speeds below about 30-40mph. Fortunately, this does not make any significant difference on a street car.

What are the dimensions of your K&N filter?

The hot air isn't what I am worried about, I am wondering how do I fix the tubing that the guy before me did? Any after-market products or should I build one myself? View attachment for pics.

That's from the Home Depot racing department. That's a perfectly acceptable solution, lots of people have those. They look ghetto, but they work well. The filter element looks like it's probably an acceptable size. That one looks to be a little short, but wider than most.
