Just want to make sure that this is the problem...

Okay, i've got no dash lights whatsoever. What do i do? I come here and search because someone probably already has had my problem. I find some possible problems: Fuse blown, switch fried, harness fried, etc etc. I go get my test light and start looking for some answers.

Okay, the fuse is not blown... so i'm beginning to think it's a problem with the switch. I take the switch out and there seems to be absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. No marks, no discoloration, everything looks fine. I plug it in and start checking out the wireharness with my testlight. Sure enough, i have no power coming out of the red/green (which, i'm going to guess is the dash light dial/switch).

So now i'm either thinking the switch definitely fried without leaving burn marks or anything... but i just think that's strange considering the car has only got 40k original miles on it and it's in almost perfect condition. However, I do have aftermarket gauges in it, but i installed them nearly a year ago.

Alright, so is my switch fried or what? What else could be the problem? What could have caused it? Thanks for your help.

You did check to make sure you didn't have the brightness turned off right???

It is not uncommon to have the switch burn out internally as well, and much more likely if you have done any extra electronics (such as an aftermarket radio- gauges- lights hooked up incorrectly, aftermarket alarm wired wrong, etc).

I have rebuilt headlight switches available on my webstore if you need one.

And test lights should be avoided on modern cars. Many of them can draw more than 1 amp; easily overloaded many circuits and damaging expensive electronics.

Yes, of course i checked the brightness, first thing i thought of when it happened "oh, i must have hit by accident". As far as i know, none of my add-ons are re-wired wrong.... they've been in for as long as i've owned the car, never had a problem.

I have decided to purchase a rebuilt switch from you, which will hopefully solve the problem. As for my testlight, it's "gaurenteed not to damage electronics", it's got a built in circuit breaker, so if it does overload anything, it's going to turn off.

Thanks for your help! I hope the new switch will solve the problem!
