Just venting really

Hey all!! So I went and bought myself an 88' NA GX, Keep in mind I'm not all that knowledgeable on Rotary's!! After spending a year on gettin' it to pass a safety, I finally got it to pass, with new brakes all 'round pads, rotors, calipers, front wheel bearings, parking brake cables, windshield, and a wiper switch!!!!! Plus had to replace clutch, twice 'cause Grip force sent me the WRONG one first and it blew apart on me before I got 140miles on it!!!!

After the safety, it was time for the dreaded E-Test!!!!So after failling it twice I found out that the previous owner put an S5 block into it!! Didn't think it would matter all that much. It was running REALLY REALLY rich, and would idle around 1500-2000 just bouncin' around!!I later realized that the "MECHANIC" who did the swap ^&*%ED up the fast idle cam and the TPS screw, and variable resister!!! I managed to get that all sorted out and fixed, I think!!! Got it to idle pretty stable at around 750-800rpm!!! Still didn't fix the problem!!! Still runnin' to rich!!!

I then heard that if I had an engine in my car that was not offered in the year the vehicle was made it would fall under the HOT ROD catagory for E-testing, meaning it would be tested to 1980 standards!!! I thought sweet, problem solved!!!! Think again!!! The drive clean standards, here in Ontario Canada, state that for a vehicle to qualify as a HOT ROD the displacement of the engine had to be different from that of the original ( Not stated on the Drive Clean web site, at least not that I could find!!) But even though the S5 motor has higher compression, I would think also meaning it would have different air/fuel ratios and the what not,( I still have all other S4 equipment, harness, U/LIM), it doesn't appers to have a different displacement!! It's still 1308cc, 80 cubic inch. 1.3L!!! Fine all well and good, back to the drawing board to find out why running so rich!!!!

Pokein' around under the hood only to realize no EGR valve, I didn't know that the S5's weren't equiped with one, so I called the drive clean centre and explained my situation to them!! My goal was to try and get it classified as a HOT ROD!! Told them it was a different engine with higher compression ratio and different air/fuel ratio so on and so forth!!! All I got was notified that even if I got the car to pass an E-Test, it still wouldn't be legal!!!!! Why u might ask??? Well obviously, it had no EGR valve, no longer had all original emissions equipment, and if checked the car could be taken of the road!!! (this is stated only in the Highway Traffic safety act) So even if it passes an emissions test, my car will still not be legal to drive!!!!!!

I'm BLOODY WELL PISSSSSED!!!

I know this probably isn't the right place to post this but, thanx for letting me vent!!!!!! And before any one suggests it, I can't just put in an S4 block, 'cause don't have one, dealer wants to much for one, wrecking yards around me have no RX-7's if they even know what one is!!! And they are not all that common here, so finding a parts car is very difficult, and if I do find one it's usually an S5 and the rest of the car's shot!!!!! Not to mention, as far as I'm awear I can't even get an EGR valve for an S4 anymore!!! Although if any one knows where I can get one let me know plz!!!!!

P.S. if anyone here lives in Ontario Canada and has an '87 for sale "CHEAP" let me know!!! Then I don't have to E-Test it!!!!!!

Thnx again

just bolt a EGR valve in place where the stock on is on a S4 and be done with it.

It doesn't have to work, it just has to look like it belongs
