Don't know. I just bought the car and pulled the engine to do a full rebuild and noticed it.. The previous owner told me a tranny shop pulled the tranny to replace the forward seal.. Don't know how they did that.. Has anyone seen this before?

the motor i pulled from my car after it blew had the same piece broken off. It doesn't really affect the driveability much. Had to have been while the tranny was being removed, otherwise you would still have the bolt with a chunk of iron on the end. Did you happen to see anything like that aorund? ^_^

Yeah, I see that from time to time, it's no big deal. The one is an ear for the waterpump housing, but it's not totally necessary and it didnt make it through to the water passages. IF the housing has ever been removed previously, that could have happened as someone was trying to get it off and the bolt had corrosion built up on it and was siezed.

The back one happens when you overtighten a bellhousing bolt, that is a weak casting there. Again, no ill effects, you have about 6 other BH bolts which do the job fine.

That's wild, I guess the tranny shop didn't get the tranny lined up correctly and they tried to use the bolt to pull it together.

Used Irons are cheap, replace them if it makes you feel better.
