Just swapped in engine from parts car, now it wont start
I finally got the engine from my parts car installed and everything hooked up today. I just set the timing as stated in the FSM. When I try to start it it cranks up just fine but it won't even catch, it just spins kinda like its flooded. I have done the unflooding procedures several times trying to get it to start, but it never works. Some of the time when I try to start it after it sits for a bit, it will sound like it catchs for one revolution, then goes back to just spinning.
For background on the engine, it was from a wrecked car and has been sitting about 9 months since it last ran. Before the wreck it ran well and didn't smoke. It is an s5 engine, so I swapped over my s4 front cover along with the omp, etc. I am also using the s4 intake for the time being. I have hooked up all of lines and I am almost 100% sure they are in the right place. If there is something like a misplaced line that could cause this, let me know. The fuel lines are in the right place. Fuel filter to front of primary, rear or primary to rear of secondary, and front of secondary to return. The injectors were just recently cleaned and have been run for about 10 seconds on my old engine. The fuel filter was replaced at the same time.

Yeah, thats kinda what I had decided. I doubt its off 180, but it might be off a few teeth. Its just weird how it randomly backfires like that. Anway, I'm gonna mess with it more tomorrow since its dark out now.
If anyone else has other ideas, let me know.

I restabbed tha CAS and its still not starting. Its not backfiring anymore, though. Now that its light outside, I can see that there is a noticable amount of smoke. Nothing huge, but when the wind blows the right way you can see it. I went back to smell it, and it smells like gas.
That makes me think that for some reason the gas isn't igniting. I just put in new plugs, they are hooked up correctly with relatively new wires (they worked fine before the engine died).
So now my question is if bad gas could cause this. I know its stupid of me to leave in year-old gas, but it seemed fine when I drained some of it out. Unfortunately some ****** stole my good 5 gallon tank, so I'm gonna have to make a few trips with my 1 gallon one to get a decent amount of gas.

So I forogt to plug the CAS back in after the last time I restabbed it, which is why it wasn't doing anything, plus there was a vac lin unplugged. Now that I fixed that, I can tell that its wanting to start. It will stumble occasionally, but nothing more. Its still showing signs of life, though. Its also backfiring occasionally again, but nothing as loud as last night.
I really wish it would just start, because I don't have enough containers for all of the gas in the tank, but I guess I'll figure something out.

**** Yeah!! I got it started.
I decided to try it one last time before I drained the gas, and it sputtered to life and then went up to 3500 rpm. I assume that is because the throttle cable is too tight. Now I just have to put in the tranny and diff fluids and put on the split air tube, then I'm set to take it on a test drive.

Well, I finally took it out for a drive and is has no power. I'm afraid the motors blown, but I'm not gonna know for sure until I check the compression. I'm hoping its something else, but I'm not too optimistic.
Edit: I just went out and tested it, and it seems to be just plain low compression. I couldn't do it right, though, so I'll be sure tomorrow.
