Just joined the RX-7 ranks

I just bought my car today! It is a 1991 black RX-7 N/A. It has 133k miles on it but is in really good condition. I bought it from an old guy who (so it looks) took good care of the car. The clutch is on its way out but aside from that it runs really well and the interior is in better condition than my 1997 GS-T. My question to you guys is regarding modifications.

Here is my plan:
intake
high flow cat and 2.5 inch cat back exaust
header
MD racing chip
40 dry shot

Now with those mods do you think that the engine should hold strong if its in good condition, I realize the mileage is high. Also, what do these cars run stock? And with those mods? w/o the nitrous? My reason for asking is because I have a friend who has a 1994 3000GT SL with intake, cat-back and an RPS Stage II clutch and I want to be able to run with and/or walk him. He ran a 15.2 at the track. Does this sound feasible? Anyone who can answer all my questions I really appreciate it. I am new to the whole rotary engine set up and RX7 car itself. My previous car was a 1997 Eclipse GST (auto ) So I am asking alot because I dont know a whole lot. Good to join the second gen ranks with you guys!

You might get a 15.2 without the nitrous.

Funny, out of that list I don't see anything that just improves the looks of a car without adding performance. Think you need a update on the "ricer" definition

Yo,

Welcome aboard! You've learned that your car is called an RX-7, so you're on the way to enlightenment. *grin*

Everything looks good except I would go for a wet shot, or some such. I'm not a nitrous expert, but adding more fuel is never a bad thing when it comes to rotaries. Definitely upgrade your injectors and fuel pump if you go with a dry, or even a wet shot. Rotaries will not tolerate pinging like a piston engine will. So mo' fuel, mo' fuel, mo' fuel!!

It's an N/A
not like headers and exhaust aren't helpful. Tell that to Agent_D or MazdaSpeed7
They're some damn fast N/A's
So what non-ricer mods do you suggest?
Oh and all of those V8's w/ headers and full exhaust are ricers yo!

Hey, welcome to the forum. Where in CA are you from? There are lots of events happening so find some other local FC owners. There's a lot to learn about these cars.

Chill? It not like I was getting excited.
What I mean by that is in an RX-7 theres alot of things you can do before you go to NOS. He could do things like port the engine for the same amount of money, and thats not a one time deal like NOS.
Thats just the kind of mentality ricers have. I think theres alot better paths to go than NOS for the same price, but are actually of more use.
And I agree, the rest of the mods (i.e. Header, Exhaust, Intake) are good, just not the NOS. And if I had a N/A I would probably do the same thing.

i got an 86GXL and im going through the same deal. i blew the motor up and i just got my replacement. now im decieding what to do next. ive got a custom exhaust with dual Sebring mufflers and 2.5" cat back aluminized piping. im trying to find a good intake thats not going to rape my wallet. also im considering building a TII. i have an extra body for a 87se in my backyard and i want to find a good use for it. so if anyone has done this swap and can tell me where to start id really appreciate it. i just need to know exactly what i need to do it. EVERYTHING needed.

The nitrous was the last item in my list of mods because it would be the last thing I would do, just to add instant power. Calling it NOS is more ricey than me asking what benefits I could get out of it. Anyways, so then the mods I have in mind are okay for the engine? And that stinks that with that money invested I could maybe run a 15.2. I was hoping for the high 14s but I know its not a TII. Thanks for the support guys, and tell me some #s you've ran in your FC and with what mods.

Hey.. I dont know how old this thread is or how much you learned but THiers a crap load of uuuu crap u can do.. Custom intake. TB mod, porting the runners with dremel exc exc. The S-AFC wouldnt be bad either. Ever heard of pinaple racing 6port sleeves. I didnt think this was your only car or mabey even daily driver so I would suggest striping emisions and some weight at the same time. Some people drop 300pds wile keeping thier full interior. Thiers people on this forum who have done lower E/Ts than 15s. Try low 14s on stock port. Im sure U can get around high 14s like U wish very easily. Im shooting for it now but waiting till I get a new job...

If your friends 300 gt is only an sl running with him well (him running behind you) should be no problem. With the mods you are planning good luck on the track.
