just got an s5 n/a, OMP problem...? please help

i recently traded my TII for an s5 n/a for various reasons... (*smacks forehead) , and im experiencing some problems.

when i bought the car, my friends friend whom i bought the car off of told me that there was a grounding problem, which is what caused the "stuttering" when pressing the accelerator down to a certain point (not far from the initial position).

i noticed the positive C clip on the battery was broken (+ charge), so i replaced that and also the negative terminal C clip with new ones. i also used diaelectric grease on the terminals.

i warmed up the car, took it on 1 run at WOT, and it was fine. i turned around, took it at WOT again, and during the RPM band, the CHECK ENGINE light came on. at that instant, the car would stutter again when pressing the gas pedal to a certian point, and i would have to limp the car back. i can rev the car all the way up this way, but VERY SLOWLY.

i then diagnosed the warning cluster, and found that it was bringing up 2 error messages. one was (3 short 3 long), and the other (3 long 6 short). these 2 error messages corresponded to the STEPPING motor on the OMP, and SPLIT AIR VALVE?!!?. anyway, my air to fuel gauge was going a bit wack at this point. i feared the OMP wasn't doing its job, so i decided to run to a friends house and poured in some pre-mix to make sure oil was getting in the motor. the previous owner tells me he's had this same problem, and its the "grounding." he said all he did was add a ground to the negative terminal, and tightened the negative terminal connector and it worked fine for a long interval of time.

any input is greatly appreciated, this is my daily driver now and i've really got to get it running somewhat well. thanks!

If you're throwing OMP error codes it's not grounding. Grounding fixes a completely different issue.

Check & clean the OMP connector's contact pins on the alternator pivot bracket.
The split air valve's connector is right near there also.

If you have an S5 (89-91) you ground the initial set connector, turn on the key, & count the blinks.
It's in the "fuel & emissions" section of the FSM.
I have a mirror site link in my sig below.
