Just got my Racing Beat exhaust. Pics (no 56K).

A while back my FC failed inspection because of holes in the muffler. I figured since I had to get it fixed, I might as well get it fixed right. So I ordered a Racing Beat cat-back, as well as a RB Header/Bonez high-flow cat combo. Rotary Performance was sold out of the headers, so I'm still waiting on that, but my cat-back did arrive today:

Here's a comparison to a stock muffler:

Here's the Y-pipe:

A close up of one of the mufflers. They do weigh a bit more than stock, but the quality is excellent.

Catalytic converter to cat-back flange:

The welds on the y-pipe:

The welds on the converter flange:

The welds on the muffler flange:

And finally, another shot of the muffler:

I'm going to install the system this weekend, when I have some help. I should have some video clips up shortly there after. I'll take some videos of the stock (rusted and full of holes) exhaust, as well as after the cat-back, and after the header/cat combo are installed.

Excellent! I've already ordered mine, so I can't wait. How long did it take for yours to arrive?

Under the scroll down menu.

"Exhaust flanges".

The presilencer flange is 2.5", which will fit the y-pipe.

Here's the rest of the exhaust that I'm getting. Would have had it by now, if Rotary Performance wasn't sold out of the headers.

It should have a pretty decent sound to it, once everything is on there.

I am about to oreder the full road race on monday next week... hopefully...

It all depends how the engine install this weekend goes, and then I will order my new exhaust, brakes with slotted front rotors and hawk HPS pads... and I need to get a clutch and PP... think I am rolling with the RB street/strip combo.

I wish I could have gone with the road race system. Sadly I still have emmissions to meet, so I couldn't got that way. I just had to settle for the next best thing, lol.

I'll probably end up getting the Hawk pads as well, just as soon as I can get some 4-piston calipers (of all the 91 coupes I've seen on the road, mine is the only one with the single pistons )

As for clutches, I know a lot of people have had bad experiences with the Centerforce DF, but I highly recomend it. I've had one for a year and a half now, and it holds great. I made sure I went through the proper break in (and then some), and it hasn't had any problems at all. And that's with the occasional 7000 rpm clutch drop to boot. It's a great clutch for an NA.

You should consider ordering new doughnuts and bushings for the exhaust, considering you spent quite a chunk on the RB setup.

Do the RB Mufflers usually sit as low as this normally? I can't say I've noticed this until now.

Yeah, next paycheck I'm picking up a new set of doughnuts for sure, considering how heavy this system is.

That photo was taken with four brand new Mazda OEM doughnuts and the rear support bushings (by the front of the gas tank) were replaced with new aftermarket parts. The rubber piece you see to the left of the canister is the drain tube for the power antenna. The exhaust for my car with the factory pieces sat exactly as the pictures depict.

The attached photo has my car parked next to Ritch's Orange FC. Ritch's cans are tucked further in, but he didn't use OEM doughnuts to do it. Smaller aftermarket doughnuts or wire wraps can be used to achieve that look. It was my experience that wire (which is very common) transmited vibrations into the cabin of the car. This was on top of the loud howl above 4K. YMMV

make sure you wipe the exhaust down with alcohol so the oil from your finger prints does not burn on to them

Yo! Nice pictures. I had the same RB header & Hi-flow cat put on my 7 with some old midas mufflers.... It sounded like a swarm of angry bees. I quickly destroyed those old midas mufflers and the sound got progressively worse... to the point of my neighbors really hating my car starting in the morning. Well... about 2 years later I bought the full roadrace system. That high-flow cat (called a "catalyzer" - in the racing exhaust section under "grey area") I had bought from Mazdatrix was totally burned out inside... I mean I could see right through it. The difference between the old setup & the new RoadRace system was dramatic and really blew me away. It was very quiet at idle and had a very sweet growl when on the throttle.

I hope you don't get the swarm of angry bees with the high-flow cat. I guess the presilencer with the RR system and being a true dual helps out & I've heard that the RB mufflers make a giant difference as well. Those old midas cans I had were pretty wasted. Anyway good luck with your new exhaust I hope U like it.

I had a new RB catback system put on by RotorSports Racing when they rebuilt my engine a couple of years ago and it all is still as beautiful as the day it was installed. I haven't heard a better exhaust system on an FC. I just crawled under the car last month and polished the mufflers and they still have the highly polished mirror finish. There is a better performing, better looking or better sounding system on the market. You did good.

If you're in NC you don't have to worry about the emissions anymore. Beginning this year the state inspection for cars older than 1995 only require a safety inspection since you will not have the OBDC to plug into. Several of the guys in the RRDI have already had their inspections and confirmed that the sniffer tests are a thing of the past for us RX7 owners. Come to Raleigh and join us for a meet some weekend. Where are you in NC?

Yeah, I just noticed the whole emissions change. At least with the cat on there, I won't run into any trouble with "keen-eyed" inspection station attendents. Although I might get a RB presilencer sometime in the future...

I've been wanting to attend the Raleigh meets since I joined the forum, unfortunately I usually have to work on weekends. Hopefully that will change pretty soon, and I'll be able to get some time off. I'm currently in Hillsborough, just outside of Chapel Hill, so it wouldn't be much of a drive to Raleigh.

We do need more soundclips on here. Maybe then we wouldn't have so many "what exhaust should I buy?" threads popping up all the time.

I should have some clips up by tomorrow, and later on (whenever I get my head/cat) I'll have some louder clips.
