Just got my FC back after being in a 10 car pile-up.

It's been a long journey to get to this point. I was rear ended last February coming home on the high-way in 10 car pile-up. The girl hit me pretty hard (about 60 MPH) and did about $5k worth of damage. However, she did not have insurance. So, it was up to me to raise the money and pay to get it fixed.

You're probably thinking "why in the world you spend $5k on an FC just to get it back to where it was?!". Yeah, it's a ton of money for something like this, but the car was in such good condition before the accident. Lets rewind a little bit. Back in 2003, I bought the car from a friend of my father's for $5k. The car was in absolutely great condition. 27125 miles on the odometer, paint looked like new, everything was spotless. I drove it as my daily driver over the next 2 and a half years during the summers. I loved this car more than anything. The car was practically brand new. I couldn't just let it die because some moron hit me. It's one of a few FCs that are still in really good condition. I had to get it fixed.

This is what it looked like:

(I know, artsy shots. haha)

Every time it accumulated a small ding or dent from some dumbass' car, I would call up my bodyshop guy and he'd smooth it out for me for next to nothing ($50 was the most I paid to get rid of a ding). I washed this car every 2 days and weekly did a full inside and out cleaning. On top of that, the car was buffed and waxed once a month.

Now, fast forward to February 10th, 2006.
This is what it looked like after the accident:

There was heavy damage to the rear end of the unibody and upon hitting me, the downpipe on the exhaust decided to snap off as well.

So, as you can imagine it was devastating for me to not have my car for this whole summer. I just got it back about 3 weeks ago.

And, this is what it looks like now:

so, I just wanted to share my long FC story with you all. I often see people posting their accident pictures on here and letting their FC get hauled off to the junk yard. I figured you would all appreciate a happy ending to an FC in an accident.

Yeah, I wasn't too sure if I liked the white trim once I got it back either. I told him to paint it white in hopes it would look a little less dated. But, I think it's grown on me a bunch and I overall loved how it turned out.

I've got a clean S4 GXL as my DD as well.

I was going to repaint it *all* white and add S5 tails but now that I look at it I'd rather stick with the original scheme during repaint

Yours is even cleaner than mine

Yeah, That's the general opinion I've been getting. I still don't know if I like it painted or not. haha. Here's a better picture of what it looked like before that accident:

Thanks man! \/ \/

Just wanted to give you props for putting all of that money into your car to fix it. Usually people would say it's just an S4 NA, junk it, but it's nice to see another clean NA FC. I liked the car with the black molding and S5 tails, but this new paint scheme also looks very nice. Reminds me of the 10thAE body style. I would just leave it how it is.
Do you have any future plans for the car?

Yeah, she got ticked.. we were going to persue her legally for the money, but we figured if she didn't have money to pay for her insurance, she probably didn't have any money at all and would probably stiff us after going to court.

Yes, I do, actually. I'm going to drive it until everything has it's problems and swap it all out and put a BT in. I didn't want to do it right now because the car runs great as it is and has absolutely no problems. So why fix something that isn't broken?

That doesnt look like $5k worth of damage.

You could have bought 3 of those cars for that much.

my 2 cents <shrug>

Did you not read the post?
The retail damage estimate was around $6k, but we took some short cuts to get it down a bit. If you did read it, you would have read that there was damage to the unibody, which costs quite a bit to fix. Plus it's got a brand new coat of paint.

And if it still doesn't look like $5000 worth of damage to you, then how much do you think it looks like?

Edit:
And, I don't know anyone who is going to sell you 3 cars in as good of a condition as this one for any where near $5000.

Damn nice car! I like it. unfortunately I can't say the same about mine... My car is an 86 currently undergoing a TII swap... But the car was in my grandpa's back yard for like 10 years!!! A family friend left it there I guess and forgot all about it. when I told him I wanted to use it as my senior project for highschool he gave it to me. But the original engine was blown and yeha... Well the paint is pretty bad and some rust spots and the passanger side fender was replaced with one from a red rx7 but wasn't even painted very well you can still see some red. and that is bent LOL Plus it wasn't put in that well. It's like out of place. LOL When you open the passanger side door the feder bends we moved it a little bit, that need replacing. The interior is all there except I have to put together some minor stuff. And finally the driver side door handle key lock doesn't work. LOL yeha but thats my story so far... I hope that I can get my FC to look liek yours!!!! I still can't decide what to paint it... I really want white now that I saw yours. Nice car man!!!

I'm very glad you had it repaired. It would have been a real loss if you had scrapped it.

Thanks, and thanks to everyone else. I'm glad you all like it... especially for the amount of money I put into it. It would have been a loss to me. Just like anyone who puts time and effort into their car, it would have been horrible to part with it. I mean, 6 months was enough as it is not being able to drive it. I just hope nothing happens to it in the future.

The title is as clear as day. No insurance company ever saw the car or estimated the damage. Everything came out of my pocket and went to my body guy who did everything as a private job. There were no insurance companies involved so the title is as clean as it was when i got the car.

Oh, for anyone wondering now, the odometer just turned over 46,000 today.

She did not pay, we didn't persue her any further than getting her ticked for invalid insurance. It would have cost us more money than it was worth to take her to court... especially if she stiffed us if the jugde were to rule in our favor. So we left everyone out of it. Not quite a big deal for me, i was going to put the money into the car anyways. I like to think of it as a really expensive paint job.

The least you could have done was get her to settle out of court for half the amount... 2500 for little or no legal costs.

And I'm pretty sure the court can order a person to sell their crap to pay, if they don't have money. IMO the saying "you can squeeze blood out of a turnip" only counts if they have nothing of value whatsoever (such as a car).

Or you could have garnished her wages.

Amazing looking car. I'm glad you got it repaired as well. Got to keep the white 7's on the road. No matter what generation it is.

Quick Reply: Just got my FC back after being in a 10 car pile-up.
