Question just got my bro's 87rx7FC and its been sitting for 2yrs

I just started using this kind of website and i am trying to get used to it. my bro abandoned a 87rx7 FC and its been sitting for about 2yrs with out turning it on. There is nothing wrong with it, it used to run good when my bro drove it. I just wanted to know if there is anything that i should know before i try to start it up again for the first time in 2yrs.

I've been trying to look for 2nd Gen references, or manuals online and i found a couple of parts manuals. here is the one i found, http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/rx7/manuals.html.
the first thing i need to do is to tune it for long distances since i go to school 600 miles away so i need to make sure its ready in 1 month to make this 600 mile trip. the good thing is that i will only do this trip 2 maybe 3 times per year. if anyone can help with ANYTHING including making an 87 rx7 reliable, that will be cool because i am fairly new to rx7's and auto tech in general. thanks

First of all, congratulations on the new car. You are already looking in the right direction as far as the FSM link that you posted. You might want to go ahead and print a hard copy for reference and keep it in the trunk.

Check this link out for unstoring the vehicle before attempting to start it.

prime the oiling system before starting it. Even possibley change out the oil depending on how used the oil was before it sat.

was the coolant drained before sitting? I would consdier letting it run and flush out the old coolant

You said you got a manual, would that be a chilton's or Haynes manual from autozone, or a Factory service manual like the one ZROcool85 offered to sell you? There is a big difference. The autozone manuals aren't good for much more than the basics. $25 for an FSM is a great deal.

600 miles is a long trip period. I would get your car running asap and start driving it to see what type of issues it HAS.

update.

i replaced the broken alternator with a new one and it didn't start. back in march we had the rx7 running fine but i dont know whats the problem now. it is probably not the engine. nonetheless we found out that the secondary injector wasnt pumping fuel into the engine at all. the only way we were able to start the engine was manually adding fuel into the other fuel hose. we think the fuel pump might budge by 2moro since there has been no fuel in the car since last march. i am working with a trusted under the table mechanic and so far he has been really good at working on my rx7. i am learning more and more reading up on the factory service manual. we'll see if the fuel pump will work 2moro. thanks

Bad secondary injectors will not prevent the car from starting. They are not used below 3800 RPM.

aaron cake u were right i think about the secondary injectors. i am not sure.
so the pump didnt budge today and we checked to see if the fuel pump worked at all, which it didnt. so then we replaced it with a new one and the 7 started!! It was thumping(i dunno if thats normal or not) a bit but it was working fine. we let it warm up to operating temp and a bit more to get everything working. i am going to replace the transmission oil b4 i even move it cuz my transmission oil is old.

so the next project is going to be a nice full tune up. i am going to buy all the parts/fluids for a tune up and help my under da table mechanic do the work. next is maybe add anything after market to make my rx7 reliable and maybe economic on gas. thanks for your advice.

BUT I HAVE A NON-TURBO RX7. I WONDER IF ITS DIFFERENT FOR TURBO RX7's????... I noticed that sharingan 19 might have a turbo.. so yea hit me bak guys...

update 3

full tune up was done on my FC. all filters: oil, fuel, and air. motor oil as well as manual trans fluid, new spark plugs, air pump belt... and so on. Prob the last part im going to buy from a auto parts store is a transmission/motor mount. now i am going to the wrecking yard to get seats, left and right mirrors, i want get some 89' lights and swap them with my stock 87' lights. I have not drove it so i need to drive to see if i need more tunning or anything else. then i'm going to an asian(japanese) auto shop to get the FC hooked up to a comp to see if there is any thing that i missed. brakes and alignment prob need some work so ill prob do that at a shop. Other than that my FC's millege is 166k and in the time that we've owned it, it has has no major problems. so i think it can make it the 600mile trip to humboldt. thanks for the posts guys
