Just got cut-off, flat spotted my new tires

I am still shaking....Some guy pulled out in front of me with a big truck and a 5th wheel trailer. Took up both lanes....I was top of 3rd gear under full boost....

Flat spotted my front brand new tires BADLY... Back ones are okay, little flat spot, but nothing serious.

Only way I can think of to make them round again is to put the fronts on the back and burn them off till they are round again. Any other suggestions?

I was going to suggest to do some burn outs (but dont go crazy). Wouldve been a shame to see your car go, you just got it back up.

Man, you dont even know...I was so close to plowing into the trailer. I cant say I am mad at the guy, I was grossly exceeding the speed limit. So I got what I deserved...

Just pisses me off that my new tires are trashed...

I know how you feel. I was going to a bar one night in my old 2nd gen probe and was going like 65km/h and this **** tard in a minivan goes thru a red light turning onto the road we're on. To add to that, the roads were ******* wet. Locked my brakes, managed to avoid him and almost drove into the guy next to me and a few parked cars. Then the dude started tail gating me down the road a bit. At a redlight my friend jumped out of my car (I got out to go get him back in heh) and the dude is like a 17y/o asian. He fingers us, almost runs over my friend and runs another red light. ******* stupid people.

damn.. makes you really aware of your driving though.. i can't sit back and relax in my seat when I drive. I'm going to get a damn fixed position seat soon because that's just how I sit.. always have to be more defensive the other retards on the road..

good save!

Yeah, basically the whole story was, there was a Honda in front of me that was driving like a jackass...He had the fart can and the whole thing. So I was like, "**** it, I am gonna show this dude what real horsepower is". So the light turned green, and he gunned it. I was on his bumper till the traffic to my right cleared, then I just romped on it. I was past him when the trailer pulled out. I locked up, and he did too, I just went back (in my other friends TII) to look at the marks...Its not pretty... Looks like he slid wide and hit the curb, which explains why he stopped in the road. I feel like such an moron right now.. 30 years old, and acting like a dip-**** (I am not gonna say "Kid" cause I know 20 year olds that are more mature then me)....

The way I see it, if ruining my brand new set of tires is all it takes to wake me up to the facts, then so be it. I will be the wiser (if not poorer) for it.

Lesson learned, no more messin around on public roads for me...PERIOD.

Happened to me a couple months ago, cruisin home one night a deer ran out in front of me (I live in the middle of no where, but nice straight aways and curves all the way there =] ) so I had to lock them up to keep from hitting it.. which I ended up hitting the damn thing anyway, just bent my hood up a little. Flat spotted the tires pretty bad though, had to do like you said, put the fronts on the rear and just burn out for a bit.

Just out of curiosity, not meaning to dis, why lock the tires? Why not brake hard until they start to lock and then let off like they say in drivers ed? The car stops sooner that way. Traction does not happen very well when the rubber is being torn off.

Agreed...I panicked, pure and simple. Cant really say much else...Funny how quickly you forget that stuff when a big trailer is quickly filling up your windshield..

locking up is part of a normal conditioned response i would imagine (hit the break as hard as you can = stop faster in your mind). i think the only way to counteract that would be lots of time on a road/track course so your instincts don't have you standing on the pedal.

Yeah im with J-Rat i was doing 140 taking my friend to school one day and all the sudden charles yells cop cop so i slam my brakes on and go from 140 to 80 in less than 30 feet but i also left a 30 foot dark black mark and flatspotted a brand new Nitto 450 tire. There was nothing i could do but brake and hold it. -Gabe

Not to be a complete *** or anything, but i've had similar experiences to that, yet, I still can't get it through my thick skull to stop driving like that. I get these urges to floor it..................... You say it all now, but give it few months, you'll be back at it. All it's going to take is the wrong honda in the right place!!!

But the problem still remains...I gotta figure out a way to round out my tires. Looks like I am gonna have to put the fronts on the back and burn them off... Probably gonna take some video of that little event. The first time in my life that burning out will be a function of necesity instead of fun....

Shave them

I purchased cheep tires for my 7 once and they were flatted the first time I had to stop hard. I would say that that may be where the problem really lies...

But to address your question, I would think that burning them will not work as well as taking them to a race prep shop and having them shaved even.

Yeah a tire shop could probably help you out (not a chain store like discount, lol).

I have never been on a track, just came really close to ******* up my car many times during extreme road driving and have somehow learned to listen / feel for the tire adhesion when braking hard. I get kind of wild around curves because they drive me crazy.

Yep I know how that panic feels when a stupid fool pulls out in front of you. Foolish truck people. I usually try to dart to one side or another (the ditch is better than killing someone). That approach saved a rear end collision once for me.

I guess it all depends on how much practice you have with your car and how much you have pushed it to its limit . . . hey that is a good excuse for you to go get some Autox experience. It will give you an excuse to thrash your car for a day and learn a thing or two about extreme driving

Wheel to wheel or time trials on a real track is better than an autocross
