just got a 91' RX-7 ...... need some advice
ok so i just bought a 91' RX-7 , but i have this buddy that has a BMW 328i who always runs his mouth about how "badass" his car is and he is under the impression that his car could smoke mine anyday of the week, which at this point is true but i want to know what kind of money im going to need so that i can put up a fight or even beat him ........ this question applies to both the autocross track and a straight up drag race ..... any information would be helpful thanks
well he'll definately smoke you in a straight line. There is another thread about this right now regarding a Pontiac Solstice
you will need full tuneup, full exhaust, SAFC with tune, probably weight reduction, and good driving to win in a straight line. To win at autocross or anything requiring turns you just need decent tires and good driving.

what yr 328i? .... unless u have a turbo II... you dont have much luck against the 328i in the straights when youre stock. you might have a chance against him in autocross.
For the autocross the driver will have a much larger impact on what car's fastest than the car itself. Trust me, I've seen nearly stock Miatas beat Z06 Corvettes, STi's, and so on.
If you really want to be faster at the autocross, get some Kumho 710's on seperate wheels for the autocross. Then if that's not enough, take out as much weight as you can, and get a better suspension.

well do you have a turbo?
i had a 88rx7, mostly stock exhaust, intake filter and struts. i didnt have a lot of power on strights. but there is a four leaf clover freeway section by my hm.(you can keep makeing the next right turn and never realy get off the freeway in four big "loops") going the speed limit took about2:15 min. when timed as fast as i could go and taped... 52.46 seconds. cars try all the time to beat that time so i have heard and seen. some crash most dont even come close. moral. unless you turbo not that likely, auto cross that depends on you!

Full exhaust and a CAI, a decent clutch and some good tires. ~15000-2k for quality stuff.
FWIW I pulled on an E36 330ci from about 20-80 in my Series 4 FC. Didn't pull much, but still pulled maybe a fender..
