Just found out Im overheating!!

I have been driving my fc for about 8 months. All this time my guage stops in the middle so I tought this was its normal operating temp, but I found out that it supost to stop at one quarter of the guage.
What could cause this?? Is this bad???
the car runs good is an 86 na.

the sender unit or guage could be bad. yes this is a bad thing. i would suggest going aftermarket, the stock guage/senders suk

Change your thermo anyway. you should change it about every 10-20k miles anyway. Chances are its getting old. Do you know anyone that does cooling system flushes. Thats always a good idea. Most shops can do it along with an oil change meaning its quick and easy. But ya. NA's most definately run at about 1/4 on the guage, you're saying the gauge is in the middle. hmm. try the thermo and flush see what happens. I'm betting on the old thermo personally

Check your temp sensor. Change thermostat. Change coolant.

That's not "overheating", that's running slightly warm. Middle of the gauge is only about 90 degrees.

The cooling system probably just needs a tuneup:

I would get a new gauge and sending unit, aftermarket are much better than OEM.

Replace the thermostat.
The PO of my car put a Stant in and it ran dead middle of the gauge (S4)
I replaced it with a OEM stat from Mazdatrix and it runs rock solid at 1/4.
If you replace it, then would be a good time to flush your coolant if you havent rescently also since youll have to drain some fluid to change it anyways.

Well I just replaced my thermostat with one that opens at 180 from the mazda dealer, can't get better than that, also I replaced my coolant and it only improved just a bit, almost the same. is still at half way

You need to understand that the stock guage is 20 years old. Verify the temperature with an IR thermometer or aftermarket gauge.

And you don't need to replace a t-stat every 10k miles...
